The Coaches Poll is out, just saw it. My CSU Bucs are in at #25!! Great news for our modest program, but, admittedly a bit premature since even though we are 4-0, we haven't really played anyone yet. But, the Big South has 2 higher ranked opponents on CSU's schedule: Coastal at #3, and Liberty at #23. So...the future will tell. For now:

1. North Dakota State 4-0

2. Eastern Washington 3-1

3. Coastal Carolina 4-0

4. McNeese State 1-1

5. Villanova 2-1

6. Montana 2-2

7. New Hampshire 2-1

8. Jacksonville State 2-1

9. South Dakota State 3-1

10. Northern Iowa 1-2

11. Southeastern Louisiana 2-2

12. Youngstown State 3-1

13. William & Mary 3-1

14. Bethune-Cookman 2-1

15. Chattanooga 1-2

16. Southern Illinois 3-1

17. Montana State 2-2

18. Eastern Kentucky 4-0

]9. Fordham 3-1

20. Tennessee State 3-1

21. Richmond 2-2

22. Illinois State 2-0

23. Liberty 3-1

24. Missouri State 3-1

25. Charleston Southern 4-0

I'll never understand why McNeese is ranked so high. Or UNI.

Hey, 89, Look! UD isn't ranked.

Maybe because so many saw them almost beat Nebraska. Those traditional power teams always get some name recognition bumps in the polls. I'm just glad the Big South finally got that auto bid a few years ago so the conference champ can get in the playoffs. Probably will be CCU or Liberty...but dang it, we WILL get our 2nd one sometime. As a great man named Lloyd Christmas once said......"So you're telling me theres a chance"

IMO, 25. Charleston Southern 4-0 is ranked too low. I see them in the top 20.

Well I and the CSU folks appreciate the support, we really haven't played anyone. An NAIA. A D2 (a playoff D2 but still D2). A bad non-scholarship FCS. And an 0-3 scholarship FCS. We'll know a little more after CSU plays UNC-Charlotte, Vanderbilt and PC in the next few weeks. Then...the schedule gets really tough after that.

It's been 18 long seasons but we are finally back. I hope it's not short lived. The city of Springfield needs this team. 18k strong again on October 4th is what I am expecting.

Good to see it MSU! MVFC is going to be a slugfest this year, even more so than previous years I suspect.

I'm surprised I haven't seen the obligatory "Liberty has no business being ranked" nonsense yet....

Yes I would say that's it. Just like last year they got a big bump early in the season because they beat South Florida so badly. I can only hope that they don't yet again subsequently put up some real stinkers later in the season after starting off with a very impressive performance.

Coastal rated waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high, based on their ridiculously easy schedule and beating NC A&T by only 1 point. I would vote them about 10-12. That seems to be the only one significantly out of place to me.

The ranking began in the top 5 due to our success last year and that we're returning many players (although we did lose a couple of valuable guys.)

Returning 15 starters from what I read. You deserve your ranking. You had the toughest road in last year's playoffs and the win at Montana was impressive.

CSU? They have a god record but look at the SoS. Let's see where they stand after a few weeks in conference play.

;) Yes, I thought the same thing. We're thrilled to be 4-0. But we truly haven't played anyone. Of all 4 teams we've played...they all have a combined 0 wins against a Division 1 program.

Beating Charlotte would be a good win. I know they aren't very good just yet, but their roster has a lot of D1 level players who were recruited to be FBS guys. Presbyterian is improved, they'll be tough on the 18th. And honestly, as bad as Vanderbilt has looked, if CSU is truly a top 25 FCS team then CSU should be able to cause Vandy some problems, and keep that game within 30 points. If they can beat Charlotte, and play Vandy respectably, and then beat PC...well, that will say something big about CSU going into the stretch run. But right now, 25th is about right.

CCU is top 5. And in my opinion, Liberty is almost always unfairly overlooked. They also are legit top 20 in my opinion, and should have gotten an at-large bid last year into the playoffs.

Liberty has no business being ranked. They put 29 against UNC but lost, that's fine and expected. Next they beat Norfolk State, an 0-4 MEAC team. Then they beat a DII school and then Bryant. Bryant is their best win. So, they are 3-1 with 2 of those games being out of division (one of which is below them). :coffee:

Vanderbilt will assuredly by a loss. I expect you guys to have a 9-3 season (Vandy, CCU and Georgia).

Never say never, but we're not letting you boys get away with 2 wins in a row. 8-)

Well, maybe, maybe not. Just off seeing them play over the years, I've always thought their team was underrated quite often. But, other than when they play CSU, I don't follow their games a whole lot. They're always very big on the lines, physical backs and LB's, quality DBs and WR's. Their QB last year looked incredible. Hoping you guys beat them though. Seems we are able to upset CCU more often than Liberty, so you guys beating them helps our chances more.

We'll lose to Vandy for sure. But, they're awful and if CSU is a top 25 team they should at least hang in there for a little while before the inevitable loss. We'll lose to UGA obviously. @ Liberty will be a very tough win. We've only won once there (25-0 in 2000). And Gardner Webb is never an easy game either.

As for Coastal, you say you'll never let us get 2 wins in a row huh? Another FCS team on the SC coast said the same thing   I know Coastal should beat us, and chances are you guys will. But that black skull and bones pirate flag will be flying on the USS Ladson and come up the coast looking for some plunder!!! Hows the parking there at CCU now? Will 1 hour early be enough? It was a disaster at CSU Saturday. The rain flooded the normal grass field they park in, so they sent cars all over campus parking in student and staff parking, across the street at the hospital. One security guard actually told us "I don't know where you need to park, just drive around and find somewhere". Classic CSU! Only we could have that kind of bush league arrangement surrounding our program...and still pull out wins!

Coastal is better than El Cid. Period. I haven't tailgated at CCU since 2008 so I don't know. I know there's more parking due to the HTC Center
