SoCon Pick 'em - Week #5

Posted: Sun Sep 21, 2014 9:45 am
by The Cats
After a disappointing week #4, the SoCon will return with a full slate of conference games. I'd say the premiere game is the Samford at Chattanooga, with the Cats at Furman a major game for both the Catamounts and Paladins.

September 27th 2014
Mercer @ VMI
Western Carolina @ Furman
Gardner-Webb @ The Citadel
UVA-Wise @ Wofford
Samford @ Chattanooga

Last week: 3-2 Overall: 20-5

VMI. Western. Samford. Wofford. And I thing the Big South gets another one...GWU over Citadel. The Cid offense looked very mediocre last night.

Mercer @ VMI
Despite that hideous defensive performance last Saturday (to be fair it was Samford and that dastardly 8-hour bus ride must've taken a toll), I still think we're gonna win this one. By default. ...nevertheless it'll be close.

Western Carolina @ Furman
Furman might win 2 or 3 games max rest of the way.

Gardner-Webb @ The Citadel
Dogs (of The Citadel, that is) will get their act together. Chuck South is better than GWU and they only lost by two to them.

UVA-Wise @ Wofford
Obvy

Samford @ Chattanooga
Back and forth game throughout, but Mocs will break away late.

I dont know about saying CSU is better than GWebb. I hope its true but they beat our tails last year and they have several all-America candidates. GW better be able to throw though. Citadel has an outstanding front 7 vs the run.

AS I said elsewhere, different results in all the games except Wofford would not surprise me

Furman will get their act together but The Citadel will fall again. G-Webb beat Wofford. They were very efficient throughout the game. If they can stop The Citadel's running game, this game will be all theirs. The Citadel has shown that it lacks skill in pass offense, and that is exactly what cost them against CCU and CSU. Last week, El Cid threw for 20 yds ( 2 - 11 pass completion) where as CSU threw for 194 yds, an avg 7.2 yds per pass. But, El Cid can run, that's what gave CCU trouble in the second half and that's where they shined against CSU (269 yds to their 79). Like I said, if El Cid got it's act together and can defeat a pass, they could dominate.

Yep. Word is out. Citadel has absolutely no passing game. Heard from reliable source that some coaches at CCU and CSU traded advice...and CCU informed that Cids passinv game was so bad in warmups that they knew it would not be a threat

I work with a lot of Citadel alum, Class of 1964, 1991, 1999, etc... And they were giving CSU a lot of credit this morning. They have high hopes for G-dubbs.

You need to stop beating off to The Citadel.

Dude...you need a Percocet and relax! We're over you guys. 24 hours rule. The Coastal guy and I are just talking ball, about future games. And Citadel does have some excellent players, especially on defense.
Anyway, we are on to UNC-Charlotte. Coastal is on to their top 5 season. Citadel is on to taking on G-W's All Americans. But I'll talk football as much as I want...even it is a game involving your school. There are 2 college teams in the city I live in. Citadel is one. And I follow the Big South and SoCon, as well as SEC. So...get over it. I'm talking ball. Join if you want, or don't. I don't care either way

The SoCon guys aren't talking much about their games this week. Some really interesting matchups too.

The way it is looking now. Samford and Chattanooga could be the championship game.

I hope not

Face it dude- you have a sickness and running your mouth is apparently the cure.

I thought the cure was more cowbell.

Oh wait, that's for a "feva."

They don't teach reading context at Citadel? "I don't care" if you join in my talk about football or not.

Yeah, my team being 4-0 is so fun its nauseating. But then again, our 4-0 needs context, since we really haven't played anyone good. D2 Newberry has the best defense we've faced, and the Big South will give us much harder challenged than that.

What a coincidence you've only recently become the CS version of Chattownmocs.
