Project Description
The proposed Football Stadium will consist of a 15,000 seat stadium expandable to 40,000 seats, an approximately 58,000 square foot building consisting of athletic offices, meeting spaces, weight and training rooms, locker rooms, offices, restrooms, concessions, ticket office, press box, skyboxes, and storage to house an intercollegiate football team.
A separate team building with visitor locker room, toilets, and storage is also included.
The Sports Complex will consist of the stadium field and two practice fields. Also included is a separate approximately 1,200 square foot storage building.
There will be new practice fields and the relocation for existing field numbers 8 and 9, as well as access roads, walkways, service area, and parking for visitor buses, press tractor trailer, and officials.
The design will be consistent with the Visions and Values and the Planning Assumptions of the University Master Plan. The designer must be willing to design this project in collaboration with architects commissioned for other projects.
Some of the important design elements will be:
• exterior design consistent with established architectural style at the Charlotte Research Institute;
• interior architectural style emulating the nature of the interior activities;
• design that evokes the essence of a sports facility;
• Site orientation that visually relates with the adjacent buildings on the Charlotte Research Institute campus which enhances views and connections back to the main campus;
• Simplicity of design with an emphasis on economic and timely construction;
• Effective and efficient HVAC, electrical, and communication systems;
• Apply building design standards to become a LEED Certified building.
• Ability to add future buildings at end zones and space for additional seating
Location
The proposed Stadium and Sport Complex will be located on and adjacent to existing intramural recreation fields 8 & 9 at the Charlotte Research Institute (CRI).
