Charleston Southern is expanding seating this week for the expected record crowd next week vs Citadel. SC State in 1999 and Coastal last year vastly overflowed CSU's humble seating by thousands.

So CSU is adding....700 seats!!! WOOOHOOO!!!! GO BUCS!!!!!!

One step at a time boys ;)

Hopefully bathrooms, new locker rooms, and parking lots are also in that 5-year plan for chuck south.

They built the new locker room, and its really nice. I defend the CSU "team" ferociously, BUT, I'll be right there with you guys knocking the facilities, which the admin has long neglected.

Its completely insane how sorry the visitor side is. The home side is humble, but functional for the crowd sizes they have. But, with lights, and now the team winning more consistently and having some higher profile teams coming there, its way past time to spiff that place up with permanent facilities for the visitor side, and making the home side just look a little prouder.

HAHA, YES!!! Newberry coach Todd Knight.

Coach Knight was defensive coordinator at CSU from 1997-2002, he was, and still is, beloved by so many guys who played for him, and part of the reason he was not named the CSU head coach (should have been) was he had no problem calling CSU's admin out for problems...like facilities.

"That's how you know Newberry is in town...."

Classic Coach Knight. I love it!!

I would have expanded the stadium before installing lights. Who cares about 1 or 2 night games when the rest of your facilities are sub par.

For all of those people who LOVE to obsess over Charleston Southern's facilites (or lack thereof).

Here are details on the facility enhancement and expansion that was recently announced.

Thanks.

As a former player and alumni, I always agree, our facilities are bad. Jacksonville University has FAR worse than CSU, but that said, ours are really bad by FCS standards. We have still put up a pretty good fight in the Big South many years anyway, so if we ever get our facilities up to even average, and the recruiting boost that will allow, we'll be pretty tough in that conference.

That said, the best thing that could happen for CSU fans who want better facilities is start showing up more for home games. For way too many years, CSU fans, alumni and even former players would end up staying home to watch the Gamecocks or Clemson game. This aint a "if you build it they will come deal" haha.

Winning fixes all though. If CSU can make last year's 10 win season the norm from here on, it'll happen.

Unfortunately for you I don't think the fans will ever start to show up in mass. Because, like you said, Clemson and USC are both T-25 programs who have a monopoly on football in South Carolina. Even Coastal, who hosted a playoff game last year in the first round, could barely get around 4k to show up (admittedly the students weren't there but that's still awful). And they are good every year, yet their popularity around the northern SC area is pedestrian at best (or so I hear).

Basically if you aren't Clemson or USC, no one cares about you. This is similar for many states, such as Arizona, Ohio, Michigan, Colorado, etc. FBS will always take priority. It's unfortunate because often times FCS schools have so much more to offer than their FBS counterparts.

Maybe I missed it, but aside from temporary seating for this weekend, your link made no mention of expanded seating.

So only another 5 years to wait -- for Phase 2 -- and another 16 FBS drubbings to pay for it! How exciting! These are truly heady times there in Ladson!

Good to read this......but surprised the capacity will "top out" at 5300.......why not 7500? I know it takes more $$ for that to happen, and I hope it does.

You're right. Plus being at the beach and in Charleston. ..there is so much else to do here. You really have to put a great show on to get em here.

One reason is CSUs long time president has had a decades old policy of NEVER being in debt. That school will never ever borrow to build or overspend. Now...in todays world...its pretty smart and I applaud him. The school avoids a lot of financial trouble that way. But it also means being very patient haha.

Oh yeah, that would've worked great  I forgot all about that incident, what a clown that guy was.

But back on CSU's stadium, one thing I wish they would have forseen is not having a track around the field. Having the fans so far back from the team and field hurts any gameday atmosphere. Every stadium I've ever been too with a track around it seems less fun, just the big space and gap.

The seating is important. At hte CCU game last year, they had that one set of stands turned around and locked so that it couldn't be picked up and moved. What is with CSU and those portable stands that are never facing the stadium!?

Those seats are of higher quality than Chuck South's bleachers.
