Big Sky Predictions 8-30

Yes I know it says 8-3 which is Saturday and that there are actually four games being played on Thursday involving Big Sky teams. Everyone is on the road for the openers except for Northern Colorado which opens next weekend, and EWU which opened last weekend. Currently I am at 1-0, having correctly picked the game last week. Another perfect weekend will go a long way when the games will be much tougher.
CP at New Mexico State---The Mustangs venture on the road and face the Sun Belt's new member in New Mexico State. While the Mustangs do have some holes to fill from last season, they are still not in as bad of shape as New Mexico State. Take the upset, if you can call it that...CP 38, New Mexico State 35.
Montana-Western at EWU---While everyone else is playing their first game of the season, both of these teams are playing their second game. Montana-Western may have manhandled Montana Tech last week but they are definitely not at the same level as the Eagles. Or Sam Houston State for that matter...EWU 56, Montana-Western 13.
ISU at Utah---The Kramer era continues for the Bengals and starts with a short trip south to play the Pac-12 Utah team. A win would definitely be surprising, and just keeping it close may raise a few eyebrows across the conference...Utah 27, ISU 14.
UM at Wyoming---The Grizzlies think they have the horses to be in the elite class nationally and they may be right. They are stepping up a level (maybe not that high of a step) to face the Mountain West's Wyoming team, boasting a new coach and a new system. The Grizzlies can win it, but the new coaching regime at Wyoming won't want to answer those type of questions...Wyoming 26, UM 24.
MSU at Arkansas State---The Bobcats enter the new season without McGhee and opponents can recall how they looked without him last season. The new era begins with a trip to the Sun Belt and Arkansas State. Maybe the Bobcats can get the win, but it won't be easy...Arkansas State 32, MSU 10.
UND at San Jose State---The first step in rebuilding is always the hardest and the first game can be downright awful. Perhaps the No-Names could have beaten San Jose State last season. But that, of course was last season...San Jose State 48, UND 7.
NAU at San Diego State---The Lumberjacks start off their season with a trip to the Mountain West's San Diego State team. The Lumberjacks have enough to make the game somewhat interesting but not enough to get the upset...San Diego State 48, NAU 24.
PSU at Oregon State---Oregon State has not had much success against the Big Sky in recent years, losing to Sacramento State three years ago, and losing to Eastern Washington last year. Can the Vikings carry on the domination against Oregon State? Umm, no, Oregon State is pretty mad right now...Oregon State 45, PSU 12.
Sac State at Incarnate Word---Most Big Sky schools are playing up a level, but the Hornets head out to welcome Incarnate Word to the FCS. Incarnate Word has had a good history in football and in their FCS opener, would love to get the win. But the Hornets prevail...Sac State 31, Incarnate Word 21.
SUU at Nevada---The Thunderbirds start this year's campaign by going on the road to Nevada. If their defense can somehow keep it close, the Thunderbirds could surprise in this game. But that is asking a lot, going up against a strong offense...Nevada 35, SUU 14.
UCD at Stanford---The Aggies could possibly be really good this season. They could surprise some people and play really tough all year. But in this opener they have to face Stanford. And Stanford will make them look really bad...Stanford 48, UCD 7.
WSU at Arizona State---The next attempt to return to football glory for the Wildcats starts with a road game in the desert at Arizona State. The Wildcats may surprise some as the year goes on, but no surprises here...Arizona State 45, WSU 14.
