Well, guys the season is close. I haven't posted since last year. But, time to get excited. Will my CSU Buccaneers build on that wonderful 10-3 season? I hope so. A lot of players coming back. But, for a bigger conversation, what about the Big South vs SoCon? Last year, the Big South has a HUGE year winning most of their matchups vs the SoCon, which has historically dominated FCS football in the South.

With App St and GSU gone now...how does the Big South stack up vs the SoCon? Quite a few matchups, including The Citadel playing Coastal and Charleston Southern.

What other big matchups out there and what do you predict?

I think Coastal beats Citadel, and Citadel...well, the CSU game is a toss-up. Its AT CSU for the first time ever.

CSU is going to have another good season. I hate to say it, but they will. However, I think CCU won't get caught with its pants down again. You had us last season, this year we got you.  8-)
The CSU/Citadel game should be interesting. I intend on being there and will DEFINITELY be at the CCU/Citadel game. If you in town, look me up. :thumb:

GSU will be out of town playing NC State at noon on that day. What do you think about meeting up for the game?

I hope we can, but, beating CCU two years in a row is tough. We return 20 starters, so we should be solid again.

I will do that. I'm definitely at the CSU/Citadel game, and since CSU and USC both play on Thursday opening weekend, I may go to that Citadel/CCU game.

And for the record....I'll be in black/gold/teal rooting for CCU at the Citadel game!!

As much as I hate to admit it, CCU has owned us. Fortunately, I can always say it wasn't our best period for football but honestly that doesn't make me feel a whole lot better.

I can say this, I have no doubt that CCU is circled big on Furman's schedule. I also expect a whale of a game. I think the game will depend significantly on whether Furman's defense plays like it did at the end of last year or the beginning of last year. I am certainly hopeful that it is like the end of the year.

Interestingly enough for the first time even during our more mediocre football period, all the big south games are important. Revenge game against Gardner Webb ( I can believe I even had to say that) and, even though we won the game, PC is important simply because we probably shouldn't have won it.

Mark, any chance you are coming to Greenville 10/4.

Part of that is just the population boom of the NC/SC region. There are so many more kids in these states, and so many more playing HS football. So, its inevitable that more great players are available.

So, I don't think its so much that Furman has fallen, but teams like GWU and Coastal now have access to FCS quality players that, before, only Furman or App State would get. Now...there is enough to go around that there are half a dozen quality FCS teams in South Carolina region rather than just Wofford, App and Furman. Now, Coastal is tough, SC State is tough, GWU and PC are scrappy, CSU is scrappy, The Citadel has its strong years.

Totally disagree. Furman certainly fell ( hopefully that fall is over). Certainly teams like CSU and CCU etc have improved and yes you can argue that has harmed certain schools ability to recruit but I wouldn't argue that. Historically Furman competed with the best in the country not just the region. If we take your argument to the logical conclusion, then no team in SC or NC should be able to compete at a national level because we spread ourselves to thin. I don't think that is the case. I certainly think there are schools with the possibility of competing for national championships in South Carolina. I think CCU is one of them. Wofford is certainly one of them. Maybe CSU, but certainly CCU.

and, of course, Furman. :D

Some of us are trying to get together, if at the least have a few beers and go into the game. Let me know. I think I gave you my cell # last year.

Why'd you put a "s" in front of "crappy" when referring to PC. :coffee: :kisswink:

SC State is an odd school. With them in financial straits, and possibly losing their accreditation, who knows what the football team will eventually look like. They can't keep the scholarship students let alone those that have to pay.

But, SC State is a prime example of what happens when you are corrupt, bilk the taxpayers for millions and get caught with your pants down. :twocents:
