And the winner is...

You guessed it! Super Dave. :notworthy: :notworthy:
A few blocks north of the oil refinery in a middle-class neighborhood, he was bound to be playing sports.

One day it was football, the next basketball or baseball. Street hockey wasn't out of the question. The high school football coach lived on the block. So did a number of future college athletes.

Great Falls, Mont., sits right in the heart of Montana, in the middle of Big Sky country. The Missouri River snakes through one of the windiest cities in the United States. Famed American Western artist Charles Marion Russell settled in the Electric City. The Lewis and Clark Expedition had to portage around the area's five waterfalls in 1805.

It was also home to former Montana Grizzly quarterback Dave Dickenson, who was voted as the No. 1 male athlete in the first 50 years of the Big Sky Conference. His parents, Bob and Sue, still live in the same house, a short par-4 from the football field at North Middle School.

Didn't they have anybody good enough to make the NFL over the first 50 years?

Don't get me wrong...Dickenson was amazing at Missoula. But wouldn't a better choice have been Ah Yat? His Griz teams made a TON of noise nationally as well....

Or is that just "blasphemy" coming from a Hornet?

;-)

Ah Yat was good, but he wasn't Dickenson… he wasn't quite Ochs or Miller or Johnson, either. Probably better than Bergquist, though, & certainly better than Edwards.

If you're just trolling, good on ya. Otherwise...

Methinks you missed the point of the whole list. It's the "50 Greatest Male Big Sky Athletes" list, not the "50 Greatest Male Athletes Who Played Pretty Well in The Big Sky and Then Blew Up in the NFL" list.

Considering their Big Sky careers, DD is clearly the best, despite arguments you could make for a handful of others. He won three Big Sky Offensive MVP awards, the Payton, and a national championship. In his senior season he lead the nation in total offense by over a thousand yards, and that didn't even include the 1500 he threw for in the playoffs that year.

When he graduated, he held virtually every Big Sky career passing record, as well as a handful of I-AA national records. If his playoff records had counted, he'd still have most of the records. And all that while playing an average of approximately 2.5 quarters per game, because he was so often pulled in the 3rd quarter because the Griz were up so much.

On top of that, the DD-led teams of the early 90s put a rising program over the top, and finished the creation of the monster it took 15 years for the rest of the Big Sky to slay.

DD is a tough act to follow. Despite enjoying a couple of All-American QBs since then (Ah Yat, Miller), as well as some other really good ones (Ochs, Johnson, etc.), Griz fans still pine for that little, bespectacled, nerdy-looking gunslinger, and there are very few who wouldn't rejoice should he ever decide to come back and coach at his alma mater.

Guy's just a winner, in every way that matters.

And no, he didn't make it in the NFL. Don't care. When he played for my team, he earned his monikers--"Super Dave, the Legend of the Fall". That's all that matters to me.

I know, over the top. Sue me. ;)

IIRC 234. I do remember having a 10 footer on the last hole to tie for dead last with a kid from ISU. :ohno:

I still have logo'd Sun Mountain wind shirt from the event. :D

234 really isn't that high for DFL. Cripes, I wish I could shoot 234 these days.

VA will smash all off DDs records. :coffee: 8-)

Nearly 8,000 all-purpose yards and 80 TDs through two seasons, one of which he split time. Two more years with Kupp.

With the benefit of having his playoff numbers count, I'm sure he will. But he still won't have any of these. :coffee:

All-purpose yards are rushing + receiving + returns. I'm pretty sure Adams doesn't have 8000 APY. :geek: :coffee:

Even if you count all of DD's stats in the playoffs, Adams will still most likely break most of his records.

Anything could happen, but if he stays on his current course he will blow them wide open, even if his next two seasons aren't as good as last year's.
