Ranking the SoCon QBs

The SaturdayBlitz.com has a two part article that ranks this years' SoCon QBs.
saturdayblitz.com/2014/05/30/socon-football-2014-ranking-leagues-field-generals/
saturdayblitz.com/2014/06/01/2014-socon-football-ranking-quarterbacks-part-2/
Here's their rankings, how close to being right are they?
1. Jacob Huesman (UTC)
2. Reese Hannon (Furman)
3. John Russ (Mercer)
4. Michael Eubank (Samford)
5. Eddie Sullivan/Troy Mitchell (WCU)
6. Aaron Miller (The Citadel)
7. Michael Weimer/Evan Jacks (Wofford)
8. Ryan Swingle/Alex Cobb (VMI)
IMO opinion, the Mercer QB may be ranked a little to high. He has not played a conference schedule against FCS scholarship players, and his numbers could take a serious nose dive this season.
Or he may be that good, guess we'll see.
Rubank at Samford is a big question mark at this point, he certainly has potential. But potential does not always work out.

They forgot Appy and Jawjuh Suthern's QBs.
Of course, GSUs' QB won't throw more than 5 passes this year, so they don't count as as QB anyway.

In 28 days, The Hillbillys and The Convicts officiously join the Sun Belch Conference.
The good news is, the intelligence quotient of FCS football will effectively double that day.
edit: As will the average teeth per player

Well said
From what I can gather the ranking is as good as any other pre-season. A Wofford fan said the QB they listed for them would not be their first string. and Citadel guys think they have the dark horse candidate unless of course he does something stupid like firing on a US ship sailing up the Coopah River

The bad news is the football strength of the SoCon will effectively be cut in half that day too.

The intelligence quotient may go up, but the level of football played in the SoCon will go decidedly in the OPPOSITE direction. SoCon could very well be a one-bid league for years to come.
edit: Hen beat me to it.

Is Mercer eligible for the title and playoffs this year?

I think so. I believe they started giving scholarships effective with this season. Not sure how many they are giving but it isn't the full number. Oddly enough I think Mercer may be the best of the new bunch football wise in the future. The seem to be doing the transition correctly.
Certainly, ASU and GSU were football legends but I think it might be hasty to say that the SoCon will be one bid league. We had two last year and while ASU and GSU weren't eligible, they weren't close to a bid either. WoCo is still around. Chatt is certainly improving. Samford, no reason to think they are going to fall off. Now, of course none of those have had the history of ASU or GSU but to say we may be a one bid league is probably off the mark especially considering the number of teams that participate in the playoffs. And of course, the main power in the SoCon for the last 30 years appears to be back
Oh yeah. FU

While I realize that it might seem that I was talking about Furman's 2013 record against the departing powers, I was actually referring to Furman's all time record against a certain off-colored chicken

Only thanks to Furmaning out of the second half of the home and home.

From a guy whose conference has added Stony Brook, Albany and Elon the last 2 years ...

Jerking my chain, AZ? Channeling the Big Fluffy, again ?
I suspect Chatty will be quite competitive this year, and could make a nice playoff run. They have a winnable FBS (Central Michigan), a neighborhood brawl (Tennessee), and an OoC FCS 'statement' game (Jacksonville St).
I can't say anything positive about Furman (every time I do they turn to dung) but their 'ball is better and Old-FU will keep them headed in the right direction.
Wofford took some lumps last year, but they were young. El Cid is the same way, and they'll have a chance to win the Big South (and beat Florida State) before playing a SoCon game. What does not kill them in Tallahassee will only make them stronger
Samford lost their big guns but they were kinda young last year, too. We'll see if they can back-up last year, but they'll have to go through Auburn and TCU along the way.
Western has Appalachian's old coaching staff (probably not a good thing

) and VMI has finally moved back to a real football conference.
That brings us to the Mercer Bears. We all know that Bears are pansies

but they seem to be building a nice program with decent facilities. It's a damn fine school, too, which fits well with the new meme of the SoCon ...
Now that we tossed out the trash

Yup, the CAA isn't as strong as it once was, but let's see... there's still what, 5 teams that have been to the chipper in the last dozen years. Remind which of the remaining SoGone teams have.

Didn't El Cid make a nice playoff run this century? Wofford, too.
I'm just messing with yah, Hen. I wouldn't want the CAA to get a Montana Runner-Up Complex
AND ... to throw fuel on the record-by-conference playoff fire (after one those "We're The Greatest" 5-year playoff record conference threads), I have created the Mother-of-All FCS Playoff Data Bases.
I think I'm back 22-23 years on it. I also included 'Tweener Records' whereby conference mates knocked each other out, and other goodies. It's a PITA to say the least but I'm far enough along that I ... just ... have ... to ... go ... all ... the ... WAY !
I'll dust it off and bust it out on you guys at the right time

Chattanooga goes 0-3 in those games you mentioned. Then what? If that's what the SoCon is hanging their hopes on you guys are REALLY fucked.
