Our Spring Season hasn't kicked off yet and with some down time I was thinking I'd get a little ahead of the game if I could. Can you give me a general idea of who you think you're Big Guns are for this coming season so I know who to keep my eye on?
Thanks in advance...God I miss football.

QB Adams should be the front-runner for the Payton Award going into the season. Kupp is the big play WR (amongst others). Backfield will be loaded, but Forte should be the primary guy. Look for newcomer Deon Martin to make waves there as well - he was the California player of the year as a Sophomore in HS. On defense, LB Hamlin and Safety McDonald should be stand-outs, amongst others.

Jordy Johnson, Ellis Henderson, Jamaal Jones, Jordan Canada, and Travon Van (if he manages to stay healthy) should be the main guys on offense.
D-line should be the biggest strength on the other side, with Wagenmann, Kidder, Takai, and Rehm all returning from last year.

I
would say it's the best QB-WR-WR combo in the nation, if it wasn't for that freak-of-nature Kupp

Troof. You know if Marq Rogers is expected to see any playing time this year?

Agree with Brock and Ranger. JJ's progression as a passer has been impressive, and this will be the best stable of running backs we've ever had... Don't forget Mario Brown.

Yup, Forte, Brown, Wilson, Martin, and Moore should all be available.

Good chance that at least one gets converted to DB.

For Southeastern Louisiana, QB Bryan Bennett will obviously be a strong contender for the Payton but we're loaded with an insane amount of depth - across the board - on both sides of the ball. As a result, outside of Bennett, not sure we'll have any one player rack up huge stats because we play so many people.
That said, others to watch for:
KR/WR - Xavier Roberson (returning All-American)
WR - Jeff Smiley (57 rec, 744 yds, 6 TD)
WR - Devante Scott (came on late in year after rehabbing ACL injury in '12)
RB - Rasheed Harrell (648 yds splitting time - 2nd team All-SLC)
CB - Harlan Miller (returning 1st team All-SLC, potential high NFL draft pick in '15)
LB - Isiah Corbett (2nd team All-SLC '13, 7 sacks, 17.5 TFL's in '13)
DL - Jacob Newman (2nd team All-SL '13, 7 sacks, 14 TFL's)
LB - Drew Misita (NFL prospect)
SS - Jordan Batiste (Tulane transfer, All-CUSA in '13 - Honey Badger clone)
SS - Tyler Stoddard (big hitter)
FS - Micah Eugene (LSU transfer)
CB - Mo Sutton (4 INTs, 2 pick 6's in '13)
DL - Marquel Combs (Kansas transfer - NFL prospect)
Bryan Bennett

Maybe. I doubt it's Forte (Senior), Brown (Senior), or Martin. With all the hype around Deon Martin it's hard to imagine them converting him to a DB. And from what I have seen of Wilson, his body type doesn't look like a DB at all. Maybe Moore.

QB- Josh Woodrum it will probably be a battle between him and Alex Ross for first team honors at QB. over 2000 yards last year, Freshman of the year in 2012 and narrowly missed 2000 yards. He has continued to mature and Im looking for another big year leading the Flames offense
RB- Des Rice: Came up 33 yards short of 1,000 yards but really came into his own in the second half of the season and took over the role of feature running back and will probably take the lead again in 2014
WR- Darrin Peterson: "Petey" took over the #1 role after the graduation of Pat Kelly and blossomed as a deep threat for the aforementioned Woodrum, finishing with 825 yards and 7 TDs, good for fourth in the Big South and first team honors
LB- Nick Sigmon- "Big Stack" Will probably go down as one of the best at his position at LU and finished with another all conference honor, last year a first team honor (second consecutive) and will be one of the leaders on the defensive side of the ball for a unit that save two games (ODU and Richmond) did not allow more than 21 points a game.

Aaron Miller
This season people are going to be scratching their heads as to why he has not been our starter for the last 3 years.

Yeah, just trying to start trouble. Johnson and Singleton are for real, don't know much about the other two.

Looking for QB Danny Croghan III to turn some heads this year IF and I mean IF he can beat out UAB transfer Austin Brown. Either way we should be set at the QB spot with either one.
RB Christian Reyes will be pick up where he left off and RB Mike Holloway should add some speed to a very potent backfield.
Defensively we have a lot of new guys stepping in to critical spots particularly LB. Look for Zac Johnston and and Aaron Brown to make some noise there.

Harvard will have Connor Hempel back at QB for one more year, and Paul Stanton Jr. will be the #1 RB.

I think the NDSU defense as a whole unit will be tough as nails again.

How did you leave out Na'a Moeakiola (LB)? He was the Big Sky's leader in tackle for loss as a Junior, missed last due to off season surgery and will be back this year to lead the defense.
I agree heavily with Singleton. As for Coe and Prukop, they still both have large question marks by their names. One saw time on the field, but did nothing to show he is a big gun and the Bobcats can only hope Prukop ends up being a big gun.

The bigger question, is how many times Singleton will do this next season:

Not sure. How about you watch every Bobcat game, like you do already, and let me know at the end of the season.
I agree though, even being as big of a Bobcat fan as I am, I get sick and tired of players (at any level), even Bobcats, getting up after a play and bringing or trying to bring attention to themselves. Every player should learn from Ladainian Tomlinson on what to do after making a big play or touchdown...hand the ball to the ref and get your ass back in the huddle or to the sidelines.

A team that IMO will be a contender in '14 is Furman.
They had the best defense of all the teams the Bison faced in the playoffs last year. Plus they are young and very athletic.
IMO, they will win the SoCon and get a top 4 seed.
