UAB Blazers QB Austin Brown Transfers to Charleston Southern
Brown will have two seasons of eligibility after spending three years (one as a redshirt) at UAB.
Brown was the Blazers' starting quarterback as a redshirt freshman in 2012, passing for 2,673 yards and 15 touchdowns while earning freshman all-conference honors in Conference USA. Brown started the first seven games of the 2013 season, passing for 1,199 yards and nine touchdowns. He considered several other FCS programs, including Gardner-Webb, before settling on Charleston Southern.
CSU head coach Jamey Chadwell is expected to sign at least one more quarterback in the current class, most likely from the high school ranks. Most of CSU's graduating players are on the defensive side of the ball, so the Bucs are expected to sign mostly defensive players in this year's recruiting class. The offense did not have a starting senior in 2013. It is believed the program can sign between 16 and 18 players in this class.

Probably stems from this game from the 2012 season when the UAB coach had him play as a redshirt freshman an entire game versus Memphis, with a groin injury, where they got blown out 46-9, and proceeded to rip him after the game for "taking too many sacks", and that he needed to "feel the pain" to get better.

Things probably didn't improve this past season either.

But why did he choose Charleston Southern? Just seems a bit of an inconspicuous school to choose from a UAB quarterback and a Georgia native.

Maybe he chose it for religious reasons, like Reyes.

He chose CSU because he “clicked” with the Coaching staff! Also, he wanted to attend a Christian school. Austin had many options but followed his heart…

That is great! This coaching staff is the real deal. The future is very bright at CSU. Momentum is headed in a positive direction and the future is being pursued in a very aggressive manner.

He made an excellent choice. Happy to welcome him to the Buccaneer family.

Kid was originally a Western Carolina commit before WCU fired Dennis Wagner in 2011. Best of luck to him at CSU.

  Charleston Southern was established in 1964 in what was unincorporated Charleston. In 1972 the area finally incorporated and was called North Charleston.

Back in the day, after a long night of drinking out on the town.... if you awoke in the morning with a 300 lb cutie lying on top of your arm preventing your escape and you could clearly see an old school satellite dish outside the trailer window from the bed...

you could be 100% sure you were in North Charleston

Did I miss something ? 19 and 10 played great in 2013!!
If we could just get the plays in faster and let 19 and 10 play 2014 will a better season than 2013.
With that offense, you need as many QB's as you can get. Your graduating senior starter, Dixon, blew his ACL five weeks in. His redshirt freshman replacement, Croghan, was concussed two weeks later which forced a true freshman, Copeland, to start at Colorado. Croghan and Copeland both played the rest of the season but both were also playing with injuries by the time Liberty came to town. In short, you started the season with four QB's on the roster and the only one who wasn't hurt (I assume) at the end was the one who didn't play.

I haven't seen Austin Brown play but I suppose that being talented enough to start at UAB means he's talented enough to play at CSU. What he especially brings to your program, however, is years of experience and a healthy body (I assume), both of which have recently been in short supply there.

Absolutely 100% accurate. The only thing I would add is that during the Spring and Summer, Croghan and Copeland should both work on passing accuracy. Both are decent QBs and very capable. It is all about getting better and that is one area I saw over the course of the season that needs improvement from both if we are to continue to progress from where we ended the season. I realize some of that is timing and that will come as both practice, play, and get work with the receivers, but it can be improved.
