Kind of surprising - I thought Mickey was a fixture at JMU. Without JMUDJ and bandit posting much anymore I haven't really had any feeling about JMU's fanbase and whether they had been calling for Mickey's head. They probably have the nicest half a stadium in FCS.

She's glorious!

Here's something you may remember. 4th and 1 on our own 32. :ohno:

Mickey WAS a fixture, I think the sentiment over the last few seasons (IMO) and especially more so with this year is that it was time for a change.

Go to their CSNbbs page for this past season and you will see that many were calling for his termination since the beginning of the season

Not surprising. Was always a supporter, but after the last 5 seasons he has to go. He brought JMU football to the level it reached in 04'. JMU before Mickey in 29 seasons of I-AA football had only 4 playoff appearances, 2-4 overall.
1972-1973 No Classification
1974-1976 NCAA Division II
1977-1979 NCAA Division III
1980-20XX NCAA Division I-AA
1987 1st playoff game, lost opening round to Marshall
1991 1st playoff win, lost qtrs to Tommy Bowden coached Samford on last 2nd FG miss
1994 lost qtrs to #1 seed Marshall in OT
1995 lost 1st round to App State

Mickey Matthews at JMU (all off the top of my head, so might be slightly off on some facts): 15 seasons, 109-71 overall record, 5 playoff appearances, 7-5 playoff record.
1999 8-4, predicted to finish near bottom of A-10. Won A-10, Mickey National coach of year. Lost 1st round playoff @ Troy State
2000: 6-5, no playoffs
2001: 2-9, no playoffs
2002: 5-7, no playoffs
2003: 6-6, no playoffs, Mickey on hot seat.
2004: 13-2, won NC. won all 4 playoff games on road, only time that has ever been done.
2005: 7-4, no playoffs after being pre season #1. Opening of 10 million Athletic Performance Center.
2006: 9-3, lost 1st round playoffs @ #4 seed YSU, 38-34, #5 @ #4 in 1st round.
2007: 8-4, lost 1st round playoffs @ ASU after fumble on ASU 9 yd line down by 2 with 20 some seconds left.
2008: 12-2, lost semis to Montana.

These last 5 seasons did him in:
2009: 6-5, no playoffs after being pre season top 10.
2010: 6-5, no playoffs, despite being pre season ranked & historic win over ranked VT.
2011: 8-5, lost 2nd round (round of 16 @ NDSU). New 62 million stadium expansion from 15.5 to 25k
2012: 7-4, no playoffs, after being pre season picked #2 in CAA, Pre season top 10, Phil Steele had JMU preseason #2.
2013: 6-6 no playoffs, preseason #5 pick in CAA, pre season ranked in 1 of 2 major polls.

Come on. Nicest 2/3 stadium, since have the 10 million (05' dollars) Athletic Performance Center off one endzone and bowled in off of the other endzone.

Yes. But also check out the tribute thread (I put in my 2 cents near bottom of 1st page):

Here's a head turner: (from coachingsearch.com)

James Madison: Don't be surprised if Oakland Raiders quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo and Towson head coach Rob Ambrose emerge as candidates for the James Madison head coaching job. A number of FBS coordinators are interested in the job.

DeFilippo was a JMU QB in the 90s:
2000 Fordham (Quarterbacks)
2001–2002 Notre Dame (Graduate Assistant)
2003–2004 Columbia (Quarterbacks)
2005–2006 New York Giants (Offensive Quality Control)
2007–2008 Oakland Raiders (Quarterbacks)
2009 New York Jets (Quarterbacks)
2010–2011 San Jose State (Quarterbacks)
2012–present Oakland Raiders (Quarterbacks)

So you're saying he's a defensive minded coach.

Idiots at ESPN. :ohno:

"....after the Dukes lost 28-17 to Towson to finish 6-6. It was their second loss in a row...."
It was JMU's 3rd loss in a row.

".....In 2011, James Madison completed a two-year, $62.5 million expansion of the stadium that added suites and boosted its seating total to nearly 25,000 and sparking talk that a move to the FCS level was coming. Those facilities, Bourne said, should aid the school in its national search for Matthews' successor.

"We have everything in place, including outstanding facilities, resources and support operations, to regularly compete for a conference championship and post-season play," Bourse said in a school release......

Too bad most schools don't spend $62.5 million to move up to the FCS.....

Still don't understand the potential move. First, they are not remotely dominant as this level. Secondly, the changing of leagues is a negative for all other sports. Third, most important if you will not get a seat at the big table(4 superconferences) then eventually you are right back here once that occurs. Marshall is probably the most successful school going to Fbs

Otherwise not that successful. I guess GA southern has the best shot but I think all of them are unlikely. I guess they hope to be UCF.

That doesn't matter too much. Dominance at the I-AA level doesn't mean success at the I-A level, and vice versa.

If JMU announces a move up, last 5 seasons in I-AA: 32-24 regular season + 1 playoff appearance

Boise in their last 5 seasons of I-AA, 32-23 regular season + 1 playoff appearance
91' 7-4 no playoffs
92' 5-6 no playoffs
93' 3-8 no playoffs
94' 13-2, lost in NC game to YSU
95' 7-4 no playoffs

And Boise since moving up:
97' 2-10
98' 5-6
99' 6-5
99' 10-3, won toilet bowl
00' 10-2, won toilet bowl
01' 8-4
02' 12-1 won toilet bowl
03' 13-1 won toilet bowl
04' 11-1 lost toilet bowl
05' 9-4 lost toilet bowl
06' 13-0 won Fiesta Bowl in famous OT win over Oklahoma
07' 10-3 lost toilet bowl
08' 12-1 lost toilet bowl
09' 14-0 won Fiesta Bowl
10' 12-1 won toilet bowl
11' 12-1 won toilet bowl
12' 11-2 won toilet bowl
13' 7-4 so far this season....

I mentioned Boise. Then you have Marshall, who in the 90s who in their last 6 seasons in I-AA went to 5 NC games, winning 2, + 1 semifinals. Then in their 1st 3 seasons in the MAC went:
-10-3
-12-1
-13-0 (would have qualified for a BCS Bowl under the format later adopted in the 2000s
-8-5
-11-2
-11-2
-8-4
Then the move to CUSA and the last 9 seasons have been between 7-6 and 3-9 before 8-3 this season.

Then you have WKU
00' 11-2, upset in qtr finals
01' 8-4, lost in 1st round
02' 12-3, won NC
03'; 9-4, lost in qtr finals
04 9-3, lost in 1st round
05' 6-5
06' 6-5
07' 7-5

08' 2-10 (1st season playing a I-A schedule, only 2 wins were vs I-AA)
09' 0-12
10' 2-10
11' 7-5
12' 7-6, lost 1st bowl game, Little Caesars in Beirut eer I mean Detriot...
13' 7-4 so far...

JMU will probably end up in their 1st 5 seasons closer in record to WKU than Marshall or Boise..
