Consistently rated the strongest conference, yet only the Jacks get a AL?
BSC gets 3 & SLC gets 2????
UNI with a win over Iowa St & Youngstown deserved a spot over SHSU & SUU

Too many losses overall.
UNI did beat McNeese bad and SDSU beat SELU.
The bigger the conference the better chance for more teams with better winning percentage. The CAA has done it for years, now the Big Sky has followed. All 4 teams from the Big Sky have deserving records, just the law of averages and not playing several teams in a conference, can lead to more teams with great records.

Yes. If you look at the four Big Sky teams that got in you see that none of them played all of the other three. Had they all played each other it's likely at least one of them wouldn't have gotten in. Not guaranteed but likely.
The Southland will have that kind of thing working for it next year because it's going to have three new teams so that none of the teams will play all of the other teams in the conference.

That NCAA SRS was not kind to the MVC. It even failed to rate North Dakota State #1. Here's how the MVC teams did in the NCAA SRS:
2. North Dakota State
17. South Dakota State
24. Youngstown State
31. Northern Iowa
32. Southern Illinois
47. Illinois State
62. Missouri State
82. South Dakota
89. Western Illinois
112. Indiana State
The biggest surprise "non selection" of this year's process to me is Youngstown State not getting in. I can see some other MVC teams not getting in because they beat each other up and had five or more losses. But surely the selection committee people are savvy enough to realize that the MVC was the toughest conference this year and I'd have thought an 8-4 team from that league would be in.

UNI at 3-5 in conference play didn't deserve to get much serious consideration. YSU gets in if they don't lose their last 3 in a row.
The MEAC getting two though is puzzling.

So, UNI would have been more deserving without demolishing an FBS opponent and McNeese State and replacing those wins with wins over SIU and ISr?

YSU is certainly more deserving than a second MEAC team, or a 3rd OVC team.

Take off the purple and gold blinders for a second and see that won/loss record is still king. 5 losses = stay home.

We beat an FBS school as well and also beat a ranked top ten team when we played at Montana State, we deserved to get in whatever you say.

Ranked at the time...I love that line....
ranked at the time....
SUU had 1 win over a team with winning record

That was said on the selection show this morning. UNI wasn't mentioned by name but it was pretty clear it's who the selection chair was talking about....and it's what most people use against UNI...the conference record.
So, take away the 5 TD win over McNeese State and the FBS thrashing and replace it with wins over Illinois State and Southern Illinois and apparently UNI is more playoff worthy in the eyes of the committee

MVFC should have declared NDSU ineligible for the AQ, ala the Patriot League and Fordham.
then 5-7 Missouri State would have made the playoffs (they would win the tiebreak amongst the 4 teams that tied for second in the conference at 5-3)

Big South got robbed too. The BS owned the SoCon on the field this year. 7-2 record I believe head to head.
Big South co-champs Coastal Carolina and Liberty. CCU got auto. Liberty had losses to 1-A Kent State, ranked Richmond, and a double OT loss to Coastal. Yet, 8-4 Samford and 7-5 friggin Furman from the SoCon got 2 teams in, while the Big South only got CCU, and Liberty gets hosed. This is coming from a CSU fan, fresh off Liberty beating our tails in. But, LU deserves it FAR more than Furman.
And LOTS of teams deserve it more than a damn 5-6 Lafayette team. What a joke.

Maybe if Liberty wanted into the playoffs their AD should have scheduled them some tough football games. Two D2s, plus Morgan St and Monmouth.. so basically 4 cupcake wins and only beat two teams with a winning record.

Furman went 7-5. They were 1-2 vs the Big South. They lost to 4th place BSC team Gardner Webb. Lost to Coastal. And barely won by 1 point over next-to-last place Big South team Presbyterian. The Big South owned the SoCon on the field this year, 7-2 I think. Yet, their 7-5 Co-Champ gets in over Liberty, who is obviously a better team, with a better record, and plays in....for this year anyway...the better conference.

Put SHSU state in that statement instead of Liberty and it's the same thing...

bucs, maybe you should bone up on the selection process. Furman and Lafayette were both AQ. If you want to complain about Liberty not making it, maybe you should compare them the the actual other at-large teams Just a thought

IMO, YSU should have been in but 3 consecutive losses to end the season must have really hurt their cause.
UNI had a chance but a 3-5 conference record probably kept them out.
It sucks for the MV but teams can only blame themselves....win the games you are suppose to.

Don't make assumptions. You lost 5 games guy. You're out. (See. montana state)

having a league with parity is killer.
this year, 7 of the 10 MVFC teams finished within a 1-game swing of .500. (four at 5-3, one at 4-4, two at 3-5)
last year, it was 6 of the 10 (three at 5-3, two at 4-4, one at 3-5)
in 2010, it was 7 of 9 (one at 5-3, SIX at 4-4)

Historically momentum has been a huge factor when the committee compares at-large prospects. An 8-4 Youngstown who won their final five had a shot, any 8-4 team which lost its final three has little or none.
With Northern Iowa, it is not the "conference record" which hurt them. It was FIVE losses. To paraphrase Clenz, If UNI substituted just one of their five losses with another win they would probably be in.

We have to fill in 7 non-conference games every season. Seven! Thankfully your Griz were willing to sign a home-and-home with us. Most won't. If we had our way we would never have any D2s on our schedule. But with only 5 conference games it sort of becomes our last resort. We also had two FBS games that we both led into the closing moments. We have no one to blame but ourselves for not closing things out at Kent, ODU or vs. Coastal. No one in America is more frustrated right now based on our 4th quarter performances in games we dominated for the most part.
