That is the way things were done before the big gas crises a few years ago and they(?) decided to pair teams according to location. By always pairing the Southland and Big Sky conference, for example, as they do each year, usually two good teams must face each other in the first round, while two comparably mediocre teams get an easier draw. It is not a true playoff pairing as exists in most other playoff sports such as basketball's March madness and baseball's World Series. Anyone know why?
Welcome! Im BlackFalkin and Im something like King here.. but You answered your own question there Chief. In the playoffs their are CONSIDERABLY more ppl on that plane.. Like the AD, the SID, the coaches wives, etc.. So it -COULD- be that, coupled with some schools lack of a budget.. Like Coastal Carolina flying 130 people to Spokane... they can bus or take ac cheaper flight to Towson or Maine.

Here's why: if the visiting team travels a minimum amount of miles, I believe 300 the NCAA helps pay travel costs. Of course the NCAA also takes the majority of the ticket revenue too. For years the NCAA lost money running the championship but the extra money from Frisco put it in the black.

Here, King. Here, King. Have a treat. Good boy!
"Theoretically" with the play-in round, teams ranked 9-24 meet each other ( 24 V. 9, 23 V. 10, 22 V. 11, etc) conceivably resulting in a conventional 16-team 2nd Round with 16 V. 1, 15 V. 2, 14 V. 3 ....
Fair or not, in the play-in round Team #24 could **Bid** their way into a home game against Team #9. (Most) FCS fans have come to accept the bid process, though some folks still beach about it. This is done strictly for economic reasons by the NCAA. It costs money to put on the playoff show.
Same reason for the 'regionalization' --- Few FCS programs make money. A playoff reward can be a substantial financial burden to many schools.
Then, there is ECB. Stop complaining, whiners

We rock.

Welcome to CS. I hope you have a sense of humor and thick skin. We joke and tear each other down, but it is all in good fun. There are many former players and intelligent men on here that truly understand the game and that try to understand the committee and the ADs of their respective schools.

If you view the "FCS Selection 101" site it will answer many of your questions including the one you have here which was answered fairly well by the self proclaimed "king".

You think you know everything and you don't. What you don't know (b/c you're a fucking idiot) is that CCU has a $23-24M endowment fund (larger than EWU) as well as wealthy donors and generous sponsors such as TD Ameritrade, Hooters and Naturally Fresh. CCU has been on target with their budget, so much so that they haven't had to raise tuition in over 4 years. EWU had to jack theirs up 11%. We've been able to conduct aggressive building projects, science research and building renovations without having to pass that buck off to the students. I'd say CCU is doing just fine.

I don't care. I would just LOVE to see the Coastal players try to play football after the 1,096 mile bus ride to Maine.
