Chancellor Donald Reaves of WSSU: “We don’t know a lot of what happened, but we do know our starting quarterback, Rudy Johnson, was beaten up, and he didn’t beat himself up.”

Not sure when the DII playoffs begin, but I suspect Virginia State (currently ranked #22 in the Coaches Poll) will not be playing.

And you would be correct, the CIAA banned them from postseason play.

In Scott's defense, it's his 1st season, so he didn't recruit most of the players.

Ironically, VSU's starting QB is former JMU starting QB Justin Thorpe, a 6th yr senior who wasn't invited back to JMU for this season. The VSU TB, a 5th yr Sr, who made all conference, was JMU's backup TB the last couple of seasons who also wasn't invited back for his 5th season at JMU...

Wow. Just wow.

I'm not sure I'd claiming those connections right about now.

WSSU’s chancellor says Virginia State’s coach was ‘out of control’

Chancellor Donald Reaves: "The supervision of that team was left to the football coach, a person who was not cooperative, who failed to cooperate and refused to cooperate and came very close to being arrested for the obstruction with regards to the police in their attempt to get things under control.

"He was more out of control than his players were.”

On an interesting side note, WSSU LB John Rizor, formerly of Appalachian (dismissed in the Summer of 2012 after an assault charge) was "in a nearby stall" when the attack started, and purportedly chased-out the Virginia State players.
