...but who the HECK had the bright idea of scheduling the bloody Chants for Homecoming?!? You're supposed to schedule a patsy like Presby or a D-II for HC. The AD ought to be flogged for falling asleep at the switch for this.

For Liberty to schedule a patsy they would need to schedule an NAIA team. :coffee:

That's the whole point, Mark. A Homecoming game is supposed to be EASY, and CCU is no guaranteed win for Liberty (or anyone else in FCS, for that matter). I was just as upset the year Sac scheduled Montana for Homecoming....

The conference sets the schedule. Then the school looks at the schedule and decides which games are Parents Weekend, which one is Homecoming. The last home game is Senior day so it can never be the last home game. You also have Fall Break to consider which covers two weekends at most schools. Can't have Homecoming in the first two weeks of September. The choices could become quite limited.

Try playing in a big boy league and playing the likes of Nova, UD, UNH, ODU and W&M for homecoming year after year instead of bitching about having to play the one good team in the league.

Yeah, grow up and have some real problems.

I'm glad we're playing Coastal. People want to see football that matters. It's bad enough I have season tickets to watch them play Kentucky Wesleyan and Brevard. If this game doesn't break our attendance record, I'm not sure what will.

My problem isn't that we're playing Coastal. They're a good rival, and thus SHOULD be on the schedule. All I'm saying is that as long as we're going to have KY Wesleyan and/or Brevard on the schedule (really, ONE of those two would have been sufficient as there are PLENTY of possible OOC games on the East Coast), the schedule should have been tweaked so that Coastal was the last game of the season and KY Wesleyan was a mid-season Homecoming patsy. By NO means am I running scared of CCU. I'm just saying that a Homecoming loss can demoralize an entire campus, and every string under the AD's control should be pulled to avoid it.

As an alum, I would rather come back for an exciting and meaningful game, even if it is a loss, than a snoozer that is over by the 2nd quarter.

Homecoming is the opportunity for the school to display their football program and charge fans a shit load more for tickets.. think fans are going to be lining up to buy tickets to some shit program like Brevard or a FCS top 5 (or 10) in Coastal? Simple business, goes over the head of the ill-informed and misguided.

I know how fickle Montana fans are and if they scheduled some shitty school for homecoming (a D2 or a non-qualifier) the stadium would be half empty at half and would never return. Fans like good football, esp when they're being charged $55/ticket (or whatever it is where you're at)..

Schools often schedule patsies for homecoming because they know people will come to the game regardless. A lot of these returnees are casual (at best) fans that aren't primarily there for football. A loss on homecoming hurts a school's reputation more than usual because alums that aren't paying attention most of the time will see the loss & be turned off & tell others, thus turning them off as well.

For football, homecoming is an opportunity to impress people that don't pay much attention. It's the perfect time to schedule a weak opponent while letting the other tough games stand on their own merit. Now Montana probably doesn't care either way nowadays because, like, 85% of the seats are season-ticket holders, but as for other schools…

Regardless of outcome, Liberty's homecoming will be better than Jackson State's

No One. Grambling is the opponent, but the players are boycotting the game. So no game.

No chance to scramble for a dropdown in the general vicinity? I know it's rather short notice, but completely giving up on homecoming because the other team flaked is pretty crappy for the fans....

Really? You think you can get another team on 20 hours notice?

Maybe not, but it's certainly worth the effort. I mean, didn't we have a team just get approved for an un-heard-of 13th game?

CSU scheduling a 13th game weeks in advance is hardly the same as scheduling a game 1 day before kickoff.

Today will be a good game, a good homecoming game. Quit whinning and enjoy it.
