Charleston Southern KNocks off North Greenville to Stay Unbeaten
Redshirt freshman (CSU) Danny Croghan, making his first collegiate start at quarterback, completed 12 of 20 passes for 130 yards and rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Christian Reyes added 168 yards rushing and one TD to pace CSU’s 490-yard offensive effort.
“It’s an important win for us because it’s the next one,” said CSU head coach Jamey Chadwell. “I’m happy to get the victory. I don’t think we played our best coming off the win last week. We found a way to get it done and it’s important because it’s 6-0. It has been a long time since we had six wins here and we got there.”
“Obviously blocking those kicks (CSU blocked 2 FGs) were big plays by our defense,” said Chadwell. “I thought the defense hung in there. Those guys are tough to defend for four quarters but to hold them to two scores, that’s a pretty good day.”
North Greenville entered the game averaging 35.8 points. The Bucs tallied five sacks and nine tackles for loss. Senior end Will Hunt recorded a pair of sacks and three tackles for loss. “Their offense is really good and it was a hot day, but we just kept pushing ourselves and I think our depth helped us a lot,” said Hunt.
“We came off such a high last week and we were starting a new quarterback in front of a big home crowd (Attendance: 4,523), so it was interesting to see how we would respond,” said Chadwell. “We’re still a young team and we’re going to have to keep improving. But wins are hard to come by so we appreciate each one of them, even if we didn’t play as well as we had hoped.”

One thing I keep reminding myself is that it was Danny Croghan's first game. He is going to get better and will be a very solid QB for Charleston Southern for the next 4 years. Our future is bright in his hands. He is tough and very capable.

It is not fair for me to compare him to a senior, Malcolm Dixon. However, I am looking forward to Malcolm's return after he heals. I want him to heal completely and be playing at his best and very strong for Gardner-Webb, Coastal, and Liberty.

I am a little concerned about our pass defense. App State completed a few big pass plays on us and North Greenville had success through the air this weekend. Our secondary had some missed assignments yesterday. We need to tighten that up as we head into conference games.

The absolute great thing is, we are 6-0 with space to improve.

I'm actually impressed. Seriously, that might be the attendance from each home game of the last two years combined.

Haha, maybe. I was around the program 1998-2001. David Dowd recruited a lot more in-state than Jay Mills did, so those teams usually had 3,000-4,000. The record there is 7,000 I think, when SC State came to CSU. Between having some bad seasons and a lot of kids being from out of state, attendance dropped a lot.

But, winning fixes all, and they had a full house at CSU Saturday. A small house, but full!
