A pair of good articles that accurately sum up how crazy their illogic is. I particularly liked the Mr. Burns reference in the second article.
Cue the requisite meaningless RK rebuttal in 3...2...1....

Good articles. Ohio State seems to be the only Big 10 team that has been consistently good, but the conference as a whole has been slipping. And with OSU, you always have to wonder about shenanigans.

Amen to that Ivy Man considering who is in charge right now I wouldn't be surprised if something happens in the near future.

why does the Big Ten care about what FCS thinks? Oh right, they don't. They need to ensure that they stay as close to the top of the polls as they can. Scheduling FCS teams is going to look brutal when the selection committee starts evaluating teams for the playoff. Considering the SEC loves scheduling FCS teams and gets away with it and the Big Ten doesn't have the SEC's cache, they need every advantage they can get. (This is my running theory on why) Dumping FCS teams makes their schedules better because most pollsters assume that a FBS team is a better matchup for an FBS team than a FCS team is. And most of the time that's true. Using upper echelon wins like those NDSU, NIU, EWU, et al have made doesn't help when teams like Elon and Western Carolina and Tennessee Tech get pummeled by mid-level BCS conference teams. GT beat Elon by 70 with absurd ease. Western Carolina made Va Tech look like Barry Switzer's OU teams.
I would do the same thing if I was the Big Ten. Fair or not, playing a crappy FBS team looks better than playing a FCS team, no matter how good they may or may not be. These articles are mostly written out of knee-jerk reactions to the big weekend the FCS enjoyed last week.

I think it'd be more prudent to wait until they figure out how they evaluate Strength of Schedule for the new playoff selection or whatever, before "banning" these games.
If it is a metric that looks objectively at FCS schools, similar to Sagarin, then teams should be allowed to schedule FCS teams that tend to be decent, since they tend to get higher rankings in such a metric than the FBS bottom-feeders. Of course, I'm not holding my breath on that. (plus, since games are scheduled years in advance, sometimes it is hard to predict what kind of SoS effect they'll have down the road)

Jay has a good idea here.
One only has to go back to the mid-90s to see a time when the then-I-AA Big Sky Conference was Sagarin-rated higher than the then-I-A Big West Conference (now I-AAA). I don't know how the Sagarin looks right now, but if there's a similar situation, banning upper-tier FCS games while embracing lower-tier FBS games (particularly given the price-tag difference) is an exercise in stupidity....
