    Overall: 9-3

    vs. FCS: 4-1
    Overall: 4-1

Best Performance: (#4) Eastern Washington 49, (FBS) Oregon St. 46 - The Eagles become the third FCS team to beat a ranked FBS thanks to 518 yards of total offense and 6 total touchdowns from QB Vernon Adams.

Worst Performance: UC Davis 7, South Dakota 10 - The Aggies get smothered by a team that went 1-10 last year.

Most Surprising Result: (#4) Eastern Washington 49, (FBS) Oregon St. 46 - Eastern hands the Beavers their fifth Big Sky loss in the I-AA/FCS era.

    vs. FCS: 3-1
    Overall: 3-1

Best Performance: McNeese St. 53, (FBS) South Florida 21 - The Cowboys earn the biggest-ever margin of victory over a BCS-conference opponent thanks to a 39-point run.

Worst Performance: Stephen F. Austin 40, Weber St. 50 - Brady Attaway threw for a ton of yards as usual, but 3 picks against a rebuilding team means he clearly hasn't overcome last year's turnover troubles.

Most Surprising Result: McNeese St. 53, (FBS) South Florida 21 - On any other day, this would be the most shocking result in FCS… but not on this August 31st.

    vs. FCS: 4-1
    Overall: 4-1

Best Performance: (#1) North Dakota St. 24, (FBS) Kansas St. 21 - The Bison again didn't provide much of a passing game, but that's not really necessary when you outrush a Big XII team 215-41 and hold them to 20% on third down.

Worst Performance: Missouri St. 17, Northwestern St. 23 - The Bears fail to score over the last 23 minutes in losing their 9th. consecutive non-conference game.

Most Surprising Result: (#1) North Dakota St. 24, (FBS) Kansas St. 21 - Ironically, the only big-time accomplishment to elude the Bison over the last few years is to run the table in the Missouri Valley.

    vs. FCS: 3-2
    Overall: 3-2

Best Performance: (#21) Eastern Illinois 40, (FBS) San Diego St. 19 - Of all the crazy results from this weekend, I'm not sure any were more stunning than this one.

Worst Performance: Southeast Missouri St. 7, Southeastern Louisiana 45 - Since starting 9-1 in 2010, the Redhawks are 6-19.

Most Surprising Result: (#21) Eastern Illinois 40, (FBS) San Diego St. 19 - Panther QB Jimmy Garoppolo was Gallant: 31/46, 361 yards, 3 TDs. Aztec QB Adam Dingwell was Goofus: 27/63, 318 yards, 4 INTs.

  • NConf Record: 2-9
    Overall: 2-9

    vs. FCS: 0-7
    Overall: 0-7

Best Performance: Stetson 31, (DII) Warner 3 - It took an extra 20 hours, but the Hatters pick up their first football win in 57 years against the also newbie Royals.

Worst Performance: Campbell 7, Charlotte 52 - At least Warner could excuse their blowout loss to a startup program with the fact they were also new—not an option for the Camels.

Most Surprising Result: Drake 16, (NAIA) Grand View 21 - The Bulldogs, who are usually in the hunt for the conference title, run for just 29 yards against a lower-division, intracity foe.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

Best Performance: (#11) Towson 33, (FBS) Connecticut 18 - The Tigers finally get an FBS win, but sadly have no cheerleaders to help them celebrate.

Worst Performance: Rhode Island 26, Fordham 51 - The Rams actually managed to outgain someone, but a 2-0 turnover disadvantage still sent them to their 14th. straight loss.

Most Surprising Result: William & Mary 17, (FBS) West Virginia 24 - Can the Tribe actually turn a near-upset of a BCS-conference team into something positive this time?

Worst Performance: VMI 0, (#15) Richmond 34 - A game that was uglier than the final score: the Keydets lost turnovers 3-1 and were outgained 539-174.

Most Surprising Result: Charleston Southern 32, The Citadel 29 - Despite changing head coaches, momentum has remained on CSU's side as they've now won 6 of their last 9.

    Overall: 2-7

    vs. FCS: 2-3
    Overall: 2-3

Best Performance: (#23) Bethune-Cookman 12, Tennessee St. 9 - Wildcats take advantage of TSU's off-the-field issues and keep them out of the endzone.

Worst Performance: Hampton 9, Western Illinois 42 - The Pirates play three different quarterbacks… and they each throw 2 interceptions. :ohno:

Most Surprising Result: Hampton 9, Western Illinois 42 - Down 42-6 with 4 minutes left, the Pirates kick a field goal on 4th. & 4. :?

SoCon

WCU 24-45 MTSU
ELON 0-70 GT
FUR 21-28 GWEBB
WOFF 3-69 BAY
CHSO 32-29 CIT

    Overall: 1-6

    vs. FCS*: 0-3
    Overall: 0-3

Best Performance: Samford 31, (FBS) Georgia St. 21 - The Bulldogs were actually outgained badly by a bad team, but compensated with two non-offensive touchdowns.

Worst Performance: Furman 21, Gardner-Webb 28 - Ray Early's leg was the only reason this was even close: the Paladins lost turnovers & were more than doubled in total yardage.

Most Surprising Result: The Citadel 29, Charleston Southern 32 - Two punt-return fumbles by Vinny Miller dearly cost the Bulldogs.

* - I know App State & Georgia Southern are still technically in the SoCon this year, but I'm counting them as FBS and as a non-conference opponent for SoCon teams (same idea as Georgia State last season & UMass the year before).

Tomorrow: SWAC & Indies.

Best Performance: Prairie View A&M 37, Texas Southern 13 - Panthers complete 77% of their passes & nearly triple TSU in passing yardage.

Worst Performance: Texas Southern 13, Prairie View A&M 37 - The Tigers still have a big edge in this series, but they've now lost 8 of the last 10.

    Most Surprising Result: (none)

Best Performance: Charlotte 52, Campbell 7 - The 49ers inaugurate their only fully FCS season by thoroughly dominating the hapless Camels.

Worst Performance: Incarnate Word 7, (#7) Central Arkansas 58 - Well, at least the newly transitional Cardinals were able to see where they stand against the upper echelon of FCS. :?

Most Surprising Result: Abilene Christian 84, (NAIA) Concordia (AL) 6 - John David Baker throws 7 TD passes on just 20 attempts in a surprisingly ugly rout.

* - Old Dominion is a first-year transitional, so I'm counting them as FBS and not counting them as an FCS Independent.

Most Surprising Result: (#1) North Dakota St. 24, (FBS) Kansas St. 21 - Ironically, the only big-time accomplishment to elude the Bison over the last few years is to run the table in the Missouri Valley.
SIU ran the table in 2009. I think that is the only time in conference history that it has ever happened. Pretty rare feat.
