NFLs Rod Wilson joins CSU

Wilson will coach the Buccaneers' defensive backs.
"We are fortunate to be able to add a coach of Rod's caliber to our staff ," Chadwell said. "Being removed from the NFL for a just a couple years, he brings instant credibility to our players from his playing days. He is very knowledgeable and relates extremely well to our players. Due to his business ties and commitments, we had to wait to a while to get him hired on our staff, but it has been worth the wait."
Drafted as a linebacker in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, Wilson spent six years in the NFL with Chicago and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring after the 2010 season. Wilson was a special teams stalwart during his career, and was a member of the 2006-07 Bears team that won the NFC Championship and squared off against the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI.
The Cross, South Carolina native showed his versatility while starring at South Carolina. Wilson was recruited as a quarterback out of Cross High School, but ended up playing five positions at USC, including quarterback, wide receiver, spur, safety and linebacker. During his senior season, Wilson was a voted a team captain and led the team in tackles. Following the campaign, he was named to the All-SEC 1st Team Defense, and also earned SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades.
Wilson joins the CSU coaching staff after starting his own business in the Charleston area. He is married to the former Claire Sweeney and the couple has one child, Jaylen Wilson.
