Back in June the athletic department at UNI announced we will be using new helmets and jerseys this year, but we have yet to see them - and won't until the first game as we didn't have them for media day.

This has led many fans trying to figure out what they will look like. Putting 1 and 1 together it's safe to say we know what they will be.

They posted a photo of the new matte helmet, along with saying we will be using white helmets as well.


Shortly after that photo they posted renderings of the possible choices (poorly done renderings).



It's also been announced that we will bring back black pants, to go with our white and purple pants this year....which means our new uniforms have a decent amount of black in them.

Today I was looking through new uniforms for the coming year and came across WVU's uniforms and it clicked. We went with #4 from the options....

Just put UNI's colors in the WVU uniform...



If I had to bet on what our uniform line up will be

Home:
Matte purple helmet
Purple top
White/Black pants (I hope to god we don't go out there in the all purple grape look)

Away
Matte purple helmet
White top
Purple Pants

Home alternate
Matte purple helmet
All black top
black pants

Away alternate
Storm trooper

Please no all purple combo

Everything is OK....

...except the multi-colored sleeves in #1 and 2 home and away. Yikes.

The matte helmet, though unoriginal now, looks great IMHO.

Matte purple with any of the #3 or 4s would be sharp.

1 and 2 look better when on an actual jersey (though not great)...it's what Arizona is going with...and would be bad with purple and yellow




The reason I think we went with 4 is that was the only option not universally hated on facebook...the UNI part on the uniform looks terrible. It's already on the helmet, no need to have that terrible logo on the uniform as well.

I agree on the matte. It's overdone, but works really well with our purple. I think the logo is going matte as well.


It's either going to look awesome...or terrible.

Homecoming Alternate

Gold Jerseys
Purple Pants

Just say no to the matte helmet. Ugh!

I had a similar combo in high school, and a purple helmet with it would have been terrible.

We've done the gold jersey for homecoming. Looks terrible. That was back with old gold for the color though. The big downside to our current yellow is it's to close to university of Iowa and Iowa State to use too much of and still be our own.

I'll see if i can find a photo of that uniform

best photo I could find of it so far is one i took of them hanging in a restaurant in town a couple years ago

I'd love to see us go back to old gold...then use gold pants - ala Washington




Or just go back to the Kurt Warner era uniforms. Loved those

Clearly, UNI made the right decision in going to a matte helmet.

Oh, PLEASE. I know clenz and I have had our tiffs lately, but I don't believe THAT about him for a minute. He's an intelligent guy with definite opinions about things, but he's certainly not THAT way.
