Should Sacramento State go?

On Sac St's blog, many of the Hornet's fans want out of the Big SKy due to lack of competing, should Sac go?

Sac could have thier basketball team join the basketball only Big West Conference, and their football team could join the Football only Great West Conference, but if that were to happen, the Big Sky would be reduced to 8 teams again, would it stay 8 teams, or will another team join the Sky? Im sure this isnt going to happen, but if it did, who would be the best choice for the Big Sky Newcomer?

i have no problem with Sac State leaving....and I'd be fine with not replacing them at all. Any decent alternative would come FROM the Great West.

a. cal poly has a DI baseball team in a good baseball conference
b. they think they are joining the WAC soon not the 'Sky
c. Sac only is weak at football and basketball, they are competitive in every sport and are even good at some of them. Even football they aren't that bad...

d. get rid of ewu, psu, sac, unc, nau
e. bring in utah st, new mexico st, idaho, san jose st, suu
f.n LOL!

Send me the link to the Sac St blog...I don't see it anywhere?

Maybe Utah Valley, SUU, & UC Davis can all join make it a 12 team conference!

Then we can have a conf championship game for football.

Big Sky North will be:
Montana
Montana State
EWU
NAU
PSU
UC Davis

Big Sky South will be:
Weber
Sac
UNC
ISU
SUU
UVU

I have ALWAYS thought the BSC should split into 2 divisions. It would make for a helluva conference.

As well as the Big-10 in FBS.

Weber would win the south every year.

Okay just let me say something, the Great West is no longer a football only conference. If Sac State were to leave the Big Sky all their sports teams would have to join the Great West. Utah Valley has announced that their next goal is a football team and probably will have one around 2012 so the Great West would look something like this:

GREAT WEST:
-Cal Poly
-North Dakota
-South Dakota
-Southern Utah
-Utah Valley
-UC Davis
-Sac State

Personally i think that this would be a good fit for the hornets. Most teams they would have to play would be a relatively shot distance and could ease travel costs by going to one of the Dakotas and one coming to them every year, this also would increase the chances of an autobid for the Great West.

What would the point be? The Griz wouldn't be able to play everyone every season in football and it probably wouldn't stay together even if enough schools agreed to join anyway. Do you want the Big Sky to become as bloated as the CAA in football (constantly rumored to be splitting soon) or to go even further and become as bloated as the Big East in basketball?

I think the Big Sky should stay at 9 teams in football (8 conference games per season) and maybe add a non-football school (Utah Valley?) to make basketball scheduling easier.

Hey, then maybe you could get 5 teams in the playoffs too.

A boy can dream, can't he? I don't know the complications with the conferences, and frankly I don't care. I just like the idea of the Big Sky being so powerful so they'd have stronger rebuttals for the CAA fans' obnoxious arrogance ;)

Why in the world would you have UC Davis and Sac State in opposite sides? Swap UCD and UNC and you might have something.

I'd rather Big Sky school fans fans don't turn into anything like CAA fans: people who live vicariously through the success of other teams in their conference.

The southern most school (NAU) in the Big Sky NORTH?

Swap NAU and ISU, and UNC and UCD

I think he was just loading the South so Weber could be the UMass of the Big Sky.

Touche. I guess I would just like to see more competitive games year in and year out. And I don't mean we don't get enough competition. I just like the nail-biters and I'm confident Cal Poly would be more likely to oblige than UNC or ISU

What "blog" are you talking about? I'm the admin at SacBuzz, pretty much the ONLY Hornet message board, and I can assure you that NOBODY over there is advocating dumping the Sky. This is merely yet ANOTHER misguided attempt on the part of fans of other Sky schools to dump us, completely missing the point that we have improved in the past year with our new coaching staff.

Shut up an play ball. Sac State is going NOWHERE.

Hey, I at least pointed out sac is really only not competitive for a championship in basketball. Even then Jerome had some good years.

Not sure what blog they mean either. You think they meant the Sac Buzz Forum?

It wasnt a topic, there were just a bunch of fans that on the basketball forum of Sac Buzz commented on the game at EWU were they were down 41-9 at halftime, just a bunch of fans talking about how they think sac should leave. I thought it was interesting, so I asked everyone else what they thought.

Dont let the sac st volleyball team see this thread.

They have the most big sky volleyball titles.
