UNI's Terrell Sinkfield runs a blazing 4.19 40 at Pro Day

It takes one heck of a fast 40 time to turn heads at combine time. At the University of Minnesota's Pro Day, Northern Iowa's Terrell Sinkfield unleashed one heck of a fast 40 time: 4.19 seconds.

The Titans' Chris Johnson holds the NFL Combine 40 record of 4.24 seconds. Sinkfield's first attempt was 4.27; his second is the one that's going to kick open some doors for him.

Despite his speed, Sinkfield didn't draw much big-school interest, so he enrolled at Northern Iowa. He made the most of his opportunity, leading the team in receiving in his senior year with 43 catches for 499 yards and four touchdowns.

Wonder if teams will still have Dexter Jackson on their minds

Scott Studwell, the Vikings’ director of college scouting, was also timing Sinkfield and told the Pioneer Press that Sinkfield is fast, but he didn’t break 4.3 seconds in any of his three 40-yard dash attempts.

He obviously was fast but the Combine official times are electronically timed (not FAT) as opposed to this which looks like it was hand timed. In track a conversion from hand to FAT time adds .24 seconds (probably .12 for start and .12 for end - so would mean .12 to the Sinkfield hand time for a 4.31 to make equivalent to CJ's time).

Still fast though. Not saying that he was that much slower than Johnson but likely slower

Interesting article I found while confirming my thoughts.

The results of last year's experiment with fully automated timing were revealed only to "a small committee of two or three," according to one NFL team executive, who guessed that the times were so high they might "take the luster off the star in this show."

I saw a show about the combine and they said each team has 4 people handtiming each runner. They throw out the highest and lowest and average the two middle. The reporter/expert was saying no one uses the auto clock as their own 40 time.

4.19 is fast as shit!

4.19 is fast as ****!
Agree it's fast as anything.

Just looked up how Combine times are done and got something that is a little different than what you had heard. (2012 article - which includes 2 times faster than CJ (showing official marks are not real) )

http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entr ... 5/34964121" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here is what happens to get the 40 times at the Combine that are revealed:
--Those who participate in the 40 actually run twice, and on each run they are timed by two hand-held stopwatches and one electronic timer (that is actually initiated by hand on the player's first movement).
--Combine data put together for NFL teams by National Scouting includes all six of those times for each player, but no single official time.

Team scouts and coaches have various approaches for reaching agreement on a 40 time they use from those six timings. Some use averages. Some throw out slowest and fastest and then average the rest. Some ignore the whole thing and use a time taken by their own scout.

Either way as you said, Sinkfield ran fast.

Heard about this guy on twitter, there is another guy that is getting exposure say hello to Philander Browder from Tuskegee University Division II he clocked 4.32 in workouts before pro day March 5th on that day he ran 4.38-4.39.That is nothing to sneeze at.He reminds me of a young Donald Driver.

If that is the case then if you added .12 to Chris Johnson's 4.24 then he would have a time of 4.36 which is still flying.

I don't know about the 4.19 but he is fast as fuck, even in pads. Not a great route guy, but beat every single DB down the field on almost every play.

Some guy frame by framed it apparently and got a 4.16 out of it.
