Bucs Add 16 to Open Signing Day (as of noon)
"I am extremely happy with our 2013 signing class. While only having three weeks to put together a recruiting class, the coaches were able to identify student-athletes that were ideal fits for our University and for the makeup of our football team. We tried, in the short amount of time we had to recruit, to hit areas I was familiar with and had ties to. We were able to get seven young men from the state of South Carolina to believe in the vision we have for Charleston Southern football. These student-athletes will be a driving force behind our resurgence in recruiting our home state. We were able to go out of state and bring in some quality players that will be able to fill some immediate needs for our program...This group of young men will solidify the foundation that already exists and be a catalyst for the program going forward."

Not bad for three weeks of work on new coach Chadwells part.

That kid can flat fly. Needs to put on another 25 pounds or so to survive in FCS ball but if he can do that and keep his speed he will be one dangerous back.

New Charleston Southern Head Coach Signs 18 Players (Post and Courier - Charleston, SC)
“We basically looked at what our needs were and tried to fill them with quality young men who want to be at Charleston Southern,” Chadwell said. “I feel like our coaches did a great job of identifying the players that we needed and we ended up signing a great group of young men. We had a lot of work do to in a short amount of time but we are very thankful for the young men who have chosen our program and have bought into our vision for this program.”
Of the linemen, Chris Sullivan of Mauldin and Alex Waters of Greer were all-state selections and considered two of the better lineman prospects in the senior class of South Carolina. Both players participated in the North-South all-star game in December.
Clinton High placekicker/punter Truett Burnes also earned all-state honors, as did Greenwood High athlete Larenzo Mathis.
Wide receiver Colton Korn comes from the highly successful Byrnes High program and is the younger brother of former Clemson quarterback Willy Korn.
Chadwell anticipates signing a few more players later this week or next week. “We left some spots open for some kids that we think we will get but could not get on signing day,” he said.
Excellent job by Coach Chadwell in less than three weeks. Very solid class.

After sitting down and watching all the highlight videos for these signees, Chadwell signed some lineman with some pretty nasty attitudes. I like it.

I agree. I like what I saw when I watched the videos.

You and I and many others both agree that Coach Mills did an outstanding job for many years. However, based on what Coach Chadwell said in his press conference and what you and I both noticed on the highlight videos, I hope this team takes on the identity of playing with intensity, mental and physical toughness, and a certain attitude (chip on their shoulder).

I understand that we are a Christian school and have to uphold the values and mission of the University, but that doesn't mean we can't go out and best the heck out of our opponents.

Put Mays at 6-2 215 on the flank and lock Korn in the weightroom then bring him out after 195 as stated before.Ray looks like OLB material to me.

Yep, Korn needs that extra 20 lbs of upper body weight to survive and Ray definitely looks like OLB material. Only question is can he cover? Did not see any cover skills in the highlights.

Hopefully he has the necessary footspeed to display coverage skills if not he should be moved to ILB where that weakness will not be exposed. Is Sullivan a LT or RT just curious?

From what I saw he needs some work on foot speed but straight up pass blocking and run blocking he has the fundamentals down pat.

Okay thanks yeah if he is to play LT footspeed and overall athleticism is a must he is going to deal with the best defenders in terms of speed rushers.

Agree. I loved Mills and what he did for our program. But the one thing I missed was the attitude that the Dowd teams had (mostly from then-DC Todd Knight). I remember watching the 99-2001 Bucs. They were 5-6 every year, lost so many heartbreakers (Last second vs SC State, overtime vs Samford, games like that, hurt so bad). But that defense was nasty, they hit, and yeah, they didnt exactly "fit" into the CSU preferred personality trait for students.

After 2002, they fired Dowd, then fully funded the program from 35 scholarships to the full 65. 2005 they win the Big South.

I cant help but want that attitude and hitting of the past teams combined with the new funding and support from the school. Hopefully, we'll get it!!! :thumb:
