Toughest 2013 Schedule

Just saw this on TSN - the annual Northern Iowa/Towson award for stupid scheduling goes to..........
Eastern Washington:
Aug. 31, at Oregon State
Sept. 7, Western Oregon
Sept. 14, at Toledo
Sept. 28 - at Sam Houston State
Oct. 5 - Weber State*
Oct. 12 - at North Dakota*
Oct. 19 - Southern Utah*
Oct. 26 - at Montana*
Nov. 2 - at Idaho State*
Nov. 9 - Montana State
Nov. 16 - at Cal Poly*
Nov. 23 - Portland State*
* - Big Sky Conference game
They most likely won't win a game that counts towards playoff eligibility until October & will be facing the task of either winning the Big Sky or get through it with one loss to even be eligible.
Two FBS games on the road - probable losses, a D-2 game & then goto Texas to play Sam Houston - yikes.
Add on road trips to Cal Poly & Montana and a home game against Montana St.
What I do know is we won't be seeing red fields in the upcoming seasons playoffs.

EWU is usually better than people expect. They can still win the Big Sky and get in the playoffs. Oregon St is the only game that I would count as a sure loss.

Given how good EWU has been the last few years, I wouldn't call ANY of those games a sure loss. I would certainly be careful about terming any (outside of ISU and WOU) a sure win. But I easily see EWU winning 8 games or more if they don't have injury problems.
Which 8 games turn out to be wins could turn out to surprise a few people, though. If Sac can beat Oregon State, I'd certainly think twice about saying EWU can't. That's not to say that the Eags WILL pull off that upset, mind you. But I wouldn't want to say that EWU is not as good as Sac particularly given that we haven't beaten them lately....

EWU loses a ton this year offensively. They will lose 5 games. Book it.

That's a very real possibility but I don't think we exactly "lose a ton" offensively. We basically lose three receivers. They were all REALLY good, but there's still some experience and size behind them. It's a shitty schedule and we are pretty much in a must-win-one situation against OSU, Toledo, or SHSU.
That being said, it's not a crazy notion that we could be good enough to run the table in conference. But at Mo and SLO late in the season are gonna be rough. If we were to somehow make the playoffs, look out.

They have shown in their recent history, that they can reload on a yearly basis. Until they have a major coaching change, they will be a good team from year to year.

Sac State's OOC schedule is up in the air. 2 FBS games (SJSU and ASU) and I have no idea who the 3rd OOC will be. If it is a D2 then we fall into the same scheduling fail as EWU.

Two FBS games are brutal, any way you look at it. But you did well last season with an upset, and if you can pull that off, it is something to use as a big plus for the whole season.

I'm not sure that anyone with Idaho State on the schedule can lay claim to "toughest schedule" honors.

Horsehockey. There's an Idaho State in every conference.

You make a good point, AZ. Of course, the CAA-apologists would like to claim otherwise. They'd be wrong, but they'd claim it anyway....

SBU hasn't released officially yet, but they'll start their first four games on the road, including two FBS games (Boston College and Buffalo) and a rematch of their first round playoff game at Villanova.

Good schedule except for Southern Oregon which is NAIA. Two FBS games and a sub-DI game is not good news though. I previously posted that I was glad UC Davis migrated away from this type schedule for 2013 to 11 FCS games plus one FBS game. It makes it very difficult to get into the playoffs with a non-counter and two FBS games. San Jose State is much improved over several years ago.

Amsterbison on AGS mentioned that Sac St has not played a FCS opponent outside the current Big Sky Conference in the last decade, while Montana has played 32 different in the same time frame.

Montana has a slight advantage in bringing other teams to Missoula. I wonder how many of those 32 were road games?
Regarding GoAgs point, I agree, but if there's a year to do it, it's when you have a 12 game schedule. Note that Southern Utah is a non-conference game.

Not a surprise since the new BSC contains every FCS program in the west. I do wish we would schedule some home and homes with Southland teams but given our new philosophy on 2 FBS games, I don’t think that is possible.
