SHSU?

I don't quite understand Sam Houston's claim to fame, other than they did well last year but put together a piss-poor OOC schedule this year and barely made the 7 wins. Yes they did beat the Incarnate women's club and the ever powerful Texas Southern. Yes they did schedule (and lose to) two quality FBS teams. This gives them the edge over Northern Arizona-who actually beat a FBS team? NAU who had to fight in a somewhat stiffer BSC.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying SHSU isn't a quality team worthy of the playoffs. All I'm saying is they got the nod over a few who were more worthy of a slot. Perhaps chances of getting a ticket to the dance increase the closer you are to Frisco.
I hope we get a chance to face the Bearkats again. This time it will be in our house. Beat us in Bozeman and I'll shut up forever. I'll even ask Santa for a Bearkat sweatshirt.

I've been wondering this too. But with that said, I won't be at all surprised to see a rematch of last year's national championship. They're a good football team with lots of talent.

Cognitive disconnect detected…

SHSU also outscored their last 5 Southland opponents 264-34.

Admittedly their resume is just good & not great, but my gut feeling is the Bearkats are a team that's better than their resume.

Valid point :coffee:

Going off that. I was curious why SHSU received the preseason #1 (not that it means anything) over NDSU. Both teams returned most of their starters and NDSU beat SHSU at a neutral site. Sorry, that has nothing to do with where we're at now, I've just been bitter

i can not disagree with that, NDSU should of been the preseason #1.

SHSU lost to one FCS team this year. UCA who is a top 10.
Our schedule was made on the 7th level of hell with one DII team and and two big time FBS programs who have both beat the the #1 team in the nation this year. That said, this Bearkat team is better than last year and will make alot of noise once again.

I'm in full agreement with you. Not having home field could be your only downfall this year as we know how big of an advantage that is in the playoffs. I still think Sam Houston is AT THE VERY LEAST a semi-final team.

UCA who is a top 10.
That may be where they are rated but I really do not believe UCA is one of the best 10 FCS teams in the country.

I think Sam Houston State deserves to be in the playoffs. I certainly think they are among the best 10 of teams that did not get automatic bids. But when you look at their playoff run last year think about what actually happened. They had their hands full with Stony Brook in their first game. The game could've gone either way.

Then they blew out Montana State. Kudos.

But the quarterfinal against Montana also could have gone either way. Then their offense got completely snuffed in the championship game. Defense did well. But they were soundly beaten.

I said before the playoffs last year and I still think so: If last year's Sam Houston State team had played in the MVC or CAA it may not even have made the playoffs. It's not like they were 1996 Marshall.

piss poor? they played a&m and baylor. is my opinion that they have a tougher schedule than last season. plus they played @C.Ark. i feel they are a good tam this season again but who knows how they will perfrom in bozeman. thats if they beat cal poly which i think they will

john, your being unimpressed with the bearkats (and Stony brook for that matter) has been well documented for the last year. Montana was the semis and the bearkats shoved it down their throat when it mattered most and the griz could not do anything about it. sorry your team can not compete in such an awful conference. sheesh..

That's not a disconnect at all. The 2 FBS games could have cost a bid, like it did to Towson.

What I mean by a piss-poor schedule:

2 can't win FBS games + a Div II that don't count.
You start with 11 games, knowing you need at least 7 wins.
So you throw away 3 games, 2 can't win 1 don't count. Now you have 8 games to try to get Div I wins. This year only SHSU & Wofford made it with 7 wins. Lehigh came in with 10, they don't get a ticket.

Um, they did it for 1 half and were handled until the last drive in the 2nd half. They were shut down the last 6 quarters of the playoffs last year......doesn't mean they are not a good team but struggled at the end against 2 good teams

As putter said, take off the bearkat colored glasses. :tothehand:

You guys took advantage of our out of position defense for a quarter and a half and then couldn't get anything until the last drive to kill the clock. In the meantime, our offense scored 28 points on your "stellar, unreal" defense, almost winning the game. AND we were on the road.

You guys win fair and square, but don't think you shoved it down our throats.

Also, had the game been a night game in Missoula, your team probably would have lost just as badly as UNI did the week before. I hope you don't have to go play in Bozeman for your sake this year. :coffee:

Edit: fixed the quote because I'm stupid.

But no worries someone needs to bring SHSU fans down a little. Pregame in Frisco last year I was asked "what a loss felt like?" Unfortunately there were no SHSU fans left at the end for me to ask them the same question.

Yeah. Their offense was.....different, but not really unstoppable like thy made it look against MSU.

Flanders impressed me a lot, but that's about it.

JJ in the second half passed all over them, and even outran their D fifty yards to the end zone.

I think we matched up a lot better against you guys than they did. Also a MonDak title game would have been incredible! :thumb:

Yeah I'm pretty stoked for our home and home with you guys in 2014 and 2015. Hopefully NDSU is still a top program after next season (we lose a lot after next year) and Montana has bounced back by then for some exciting games! :thumb:

Well we'll definitely have a new head coach and probably a new look. Hard to imagine we won't improve over this year. I think it's a good time for us to be playing each other. I think we might have NDSU and McNeese St on the same schedule, too. Should be an interesting year.

Anything is better than this year, though. Holy shit it was rough. I imagine the 3-8 year for you guys must have been a gut shot, as well.

Well ya know, we have 2 10-1 seasons not being playoff eligible, sit through that crap and then miss the playoffs in 2008 and then go 3-8 in 2009. It was pretty damn frustrating. I mean even 2010 we're sitting at 7 wins, thinking we needed one more to make the playoffs. We go to Missouri State and lose 0-3. It was pretty frustrating. But we somehow got the 20th spot in the field in 2010, and haven't really looked back since. It's been a fun journey going through this whole transition that's for sure.
