Platoon the QB position when the starter in a tight game is 17 for 21 for 169 yards and two touchdowns?

I personally have no problem with it going forward as I trust Beau Baldwin and QB's coach Zach Hill completely and I think there are some legit reasons for doing this. But I wanted to get some outsider's opinions:

No mad scientist, Baldwin had his reasons: 1) Padron’s progress in practice, and 2) both times the stronger-armed junior was sent in, the Eagles were heading into a wind of up to 20 mph.

“And Vernon almost needed some mental relief,” Baldwin said. “After last week, I felt like he’d been through a season already. You could see it in his eyes in the TV version (of the game video). I think it was a weight off his shoulders today that he didn’t have to feel it was all on him.”

In Adams, Baldwin has a talent he compared to running back Taiwan Jones, the current Oakland Raider, or a basketball player who hucks up “the 26-footer and you’re like, ‘Don’t shoot, oh, nice shot.’ ” Padron is a slinger – he picked a low snap off the ground and hit Ashton Clark 26 yards away almost without looking – but no statue (he had runs of 13 and 21 yards).

The disparate talents are not irrelevant.

“It’s almost like I’ve got two sets of plays I can call,” Baldwin said.

Mostly, Baldwin will play both – whenever – because he believes he can.

“They can handle it,” he said. “They are so for each other. This hasn’t been the easiest situation for Kyle the last four weeks, and all he ever did during this time was help Vernon.

“My gut says this is going to work.”

The same gut that was churning when Vernon Adams was turning the red turf into his own Tilt-a-Whirl. Yes, it could be quite a ride.

I was okay with the Griz coaches putting in Hyphenated when we were down and needed to score points in a hurry, but I think they were foolish not to get Trent back in once we had the lead and needed to kill off the clock.

Seems to be working for Notre Dame.

It didn't seem like "platooning" to me. It seemed to be more of a whim. I know some questioned my bringing up the '50s Rams, but that was more of a "platooning" situation. That is, Waterfield played the first quarter, Van Brocklin played the second quarter, and whoever Hamp Pool or Joe Stydahar (the HCs in that era) thought had the hot hand played the entire second half. Other coaches would alternate by series or by pair of series. Baldwin's moves seemed to be based more on whim than that.

Well, to be fair SH, Baldwin has coached two Payton Award winning QB's and another that had to compete with Armanti Edwards but had a shot to win it as well. I'd say that it's more than just a whim.

Both QB's bring something completely different to the table. I think we leverage the advantage we have over most teams with our receivers better with Padron. He has a better arm and better pocket presence. But, boy, Adams is just a raw play-maker. I'm still trying to find a youtube of the play he made yesterday.

If the Griz were going to platoon, I'd like to see us do it with Brzeczek and Gustafson!

We've got ISU, Weber, and the Bobcats coming up...what the fuck could it hurt?

Gustafson's redshirting, so it would hurt that.

Otherwise it doesn't really matter.

Yeah. Why waste an entire year of eligibility for three meaningless games?

But I agree on Brzeczek. Let him go in and show what he's got. I still remember seeing him in fall camp thinking he had the most overall talent. He can fucking sling the rock, too.

How many schools have won national titles using a true 2 QB system?

How many schools have actually had good success using a true 2 QB system. I'm sure there is maybe 5 examples or so....but I'm also going to bet there are hundreds of examples of it not working.

As they say, if you have two QBs, you don't have any QBs..

Agree on both Counts...but pulling someone's red shirt, and then barely using them, seems to be a trend with this Griz staff, IMO.

And yet we keep winning. We have two good starting QBs with different strengths that are being best utilized by matchup.

Ballsy move with putting in Padron even when Adams was doing fine. It proved to be the right move. The announcers were saying the move was made because he has the stronger arm and it was a windy evening. The fact that EWU can put in either QB and win is pretty damn impressive.

WTF are you talking about? That was Pflu that did that not the current coach and it was done due to injury and needing a #2?

Hell you didn't even know that Gustafson was redshirting so stop pretending you old queen and stop trying to cover the mistakes as you'll spend your life doing it.
