The Idaho Vandals will announce a Football Bowl Subdivision independent football schedule for 2013 later today and will move its other sports programs to the Big Sky in 2014-15, the Idaho Statesman has learned.
The Vandals will announce 11 games with plans for a 12th game. Five of the games will be played at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, satisfying NCAA requirements.
Idaho has previously announced games with Northern Illinois (Sept. 14) and at Wyoming (Sept. 7), Washington State (Sept. 21) and Mississippi (Oct. 26). The Vandals will play two games with New Mexico State, which is also making the move to football independence.
Idaho, currently a member of the WAC, will remain in the league for other sports in 2013-14 before returning to the Big Sky. The WAC will not sponsor football in 2013.

Idaho will move to the BSC for football if no conference is found within 2 years. They cannot survive in Indy hell for anything longer than that. Either BSC or drop football. Teams like BYU, Navy, Notre Dame, and Army can survive the Indy league but not Idaho.

Interesting, I thought with the WAC picking up a couple new schools Idaho might stick around. WAC's probably done, even as a non-football conference at this point.

The article mentioned something about an announcement this afternoon. If true, this is a good thing for the Oly sports as it adds a 12th team and eliminates the lone wolf scheduling model for basketball and volleyball. I guess time will tell if the football program follows suit.

This just in, they won't find a fbs home! You'll have them for everything soon enough.

Guess we'll be taking that Little Brown Stein a few more times before long.
Really, though...this isn't surprising. It's either the Big Sky or ditching football for Idaho after this experiment fails...they can't survive as an Independent in the FBS.

How can you not be excited about playing New Mexico State twice in one month?

If Idaho decide they can not make it as a football independent and rejoin the Big Sky for football the Big Sky could split into north and south divisions.
North:
PSU
EWU
UM
MSU
UI
ISU
UND
South:
UCD
Sac ST.
CP
WSU
SUU
NAU
NC

If the Big Sky gets a 14th team and gies to two divisions, i will be for geographic scheduling purposes only. Play 6 teams in your Division every year plus two in the other one. No chance for a championship game in FCS.
