Big Sky Predictions 10-13

After a disastrous last two weeks picking these games, I am at 43-10 for the season and need to pick it up this week. Six games and no Portland State so my picks are truly objective. Here are my predictions for this weekend. Have at them.

EWU at MSU---The game of the week between the two top teams of the season so far. The Eagles practiced for the game with a blowout at home against North Dakota while the Bobcats recovered against Southern Utah. Fairly even on paper, go with the home team...MSU 38, EWU 35.

NAU at UND---The Lumberjacks had momentum going in to their bye week last week while UND got a rude welcome at Eastern Washington. Bye weeks can sometimes kill momentum and UND's dome is not too kind towards the visitors...UND 34, NAU 32.

UNC at CP---The Mustangs continue to fly in the shadow of both Montana State and Eastern Washington, having dispatched Weber State last week. The Bears continue to make things interesting but cannot break through for that elusive conference victory...CP 28, UNC 17.

SUU at UM---The Thunderbirds fell last week at home to Sacramento State while the reeling Grizzlies put away a stubborn Northern Colorado squad. Best to let the Thunderbirds know that, even during a so-so year, the Grizzlies are still tough at home...UM 38, SUU 31.

UCD at ISU---The Aggies should have had a better result than what they got last week at home against Montana State as they have managed to put points on the board. However, their usually stingy defense gave up a lot. Now they go to Idaho State who, after last week's ambush at Portland State, well, maybe they show up...UCD 25, ISU 10.

WSU at Sac State---The Hornets surprised some last week, getting a win on the road at Southern Utah. Maybe not too surprising as they also beat Idaho State on the road. They did struggle at home against North Dakota. The Wildcats tried to stay with Cal Poly last week to no avail. What happens here?...Sac State 28, WSU 21.

NoCo 17-41 Cal PolyProbably won't be as ugly as some expect, but it still won't be close

Weber 23-37 Sac StateWeber outgained CP by nearly 200 yards last week & still got thumped

UC Davis 34-17 Idaho St. — Line play is key: ISU is being outrushed by 293 ypg and has a 15-2 sack deficit

Suutah 24-38 MontanaThe T-Birds are 2-4 despite a +10 turnover margin

EWU 30-33 Montana St.Vernon Adams to make his first start in a hostile environment

NAU 42-31 NoDak — UND's backs are to the wall, but they won't stop Bauman

Hope you are right on North Dakota- Northern Arizona................

Despite it being at home, I don't like the match up. North Dakota has proven they can't stop the run, but at least they've been consistent on that.....................

It will take a surprising performance by North Dakota's defense to come away with the win in this one.

My winners for the week:

Cal Poly
Sac St.
UC Davis
Montana
Eastern Washington
Northern Arizona

Montana over Southern Utah, say 38-21
Your guess is as good as mine with Eastern v. Montana State.... I'll take the Easgles 40-31
NAU will bitchslap North Dakota, as they were in complete arrears at the end of their Eastern game- 49-16
UC Davis practically has a bye week against hapless Idaho State, 51-21
Cal Poly is in takin-care-of-bizness mode right now, and they'll tear apart UNC 45-20
Weber State breaks the 0 on the road as the erratic, disinterested Sac State team shows up, 28-24

I'd almost call every game here a lock except EWU/MSU and Weber/Sac State.

I'm very surprised anyone is giving the Dakotans a shot against NAU. I couldn't have been less impressed by them in Cheney. It's not that they don't have a few players--- there's some talent there--- but their gameplanning was horrific, they made Eastern look like the playground bully with a lack of toughness, and when they went down by more than 2 TDs they rolled over and quit. There were so many indicators of a team in freefall, you couldn't possibly miss them all.

Of course, now that I've said this, they win in dominating fashion...

Love reading your stuff, JALMOND! And thank you for the time you spend doing it! :thumb: :notworthy:

It's true that MSU recovered against SUU, but they also did the same against UC Davis...a week later. ;)

SUU @ UM - 31-24. The home field advantage is too much to over come for Sorensen and co.

EWU @ MSU - 28-24. I think this will be close. Interesting to see how EWU responds in hostile territory. MSU has been doing just enough to win week in and week out, nothing wrong with that.

NAU @ UND - 35-21. Not sure how UND will stop Bauman. UND needs to pick a QB and stick with him.

UCD @ ISU - 38-6. Shouldn't be close. Biggest obstacle will be the travel.

WSU @ SAC - 34-17. I'm making the trip for this one so the Hornets better fucking show up. Hornets should win if they take care of business, WSU is good enough to get a win if they get everything clicking.

UNC @ CP - 42-17. CP takes care of business at home. The QB woes continue for UNC.

I've got 46 right in the BSC Challenge so far. We'll see how this week goes.

You do know the UND-NAU game is in Grand Forks, and its homecoming right? We are very tough at home. Very few teams has won in our building in fact Cal Poly gave UND its 12th loss since it opened in 2001. Also UND is not going to lay down and die, not when there is still a shot at playoffs. They are going to go out and fight. EWU will find out what its like to play in Grand Forks next season. Its no picnic.

I don't expect any team in the Big Sky to roll over. No game is a cake walk. It's a tough conference.

That being said it makes absolutely no difference that it is homecoming. It was homecoming in Montana wasn't it?

ND has a prolific offense but NAU has a fast, tough, athletic and stingy D. ND has a weak D and NAU has way too many weapons including what I think is the best 1-2 punch in Baumann and Deboskie -Johnson (Cal) Plus an excellent FB (Boise) and all kinds of talent at WR (Oregon) slot and TE. Oh and one of the most efficient QB's in the Big Sky. Oh and did I forget to mention special teams? Therein lies the rub.

I expect a good, tough , competitive game with NAU winning. This team is focused and relentless.
