Mustangs to play the Wildcats

Interim athletic director Jeff Tingey confirmed Idaho State will play Oklahoma on Sept 12th for $500,000

As for Idaho State's game vs Cal Poly, Tingey asked around the conference and found out Weber State still needed a game to complete its schedule. So the Three schools have worked out an agreement for Cal Poly to Play at Weber State instead. Idaho State will pay Cal Poly $30,000 for its travel expenses to get to Ogden UT, as it would have had to get the Mustangs to Pocatello. So Idaho State wont have to pay a $150,000 buyout.

I am glad to see Cal Poly work with both WSU and ISU, but I hope they got more than just a one game away deal with WSU for their trouble. They could have use the $150,000 to bring a very good FCS team for a home game and ISU could afford it since they are receiving $500,000 from Oklahoma. If they signed a home and home contract with both ISU and WSU, it will be worth $150,000 because scheduling is a night mare for Cal Poly.

Well,
3 years ago Cal Poly came to Ogden
2 years ago Weber went to Cal Ploy
last year Weber went to Cal Poly in the playoff game
This year the Cats host the Stangs

I wouldnt be surprised if Weber plays at Cal Poly next year.

So Weber State instead of trying to reignite a rivalry between Southern Utah who is also looking for another game for a complete schedule schedules a Cal Poly team...man it seems like neither of our ADs want to have a Weber State vs SUU Rivalry.

$500k is not enough for the beating that ISU will get from the Sooners

I actually don't 'mind Webers' two FBS OOC games. Both close (proximity wise) and both winnable.

I actually agree with AZ on this one. And Cal Poly might be an better game than a lot of people think.

I like this schedule, its tough, and it will make things interesting. I dont really understand why Weber and SUU dont want to play each other, maybe its the connection of Mcbride and the WAC and Mtn West schools? I wouldnt mind seeing a revived rivalry, but it wasnt, I dont think much of a rivalry, because Weber leads the series 14-3, Southern Utah I dont think has beaten Weber enough to consider it really a rivalry.

On the subject of playing a FBS team, why play someone like Oklahoma, or Michigan State or Texas Tech, when all your going to get out of it is money?
When you can play a weaker FCS team like Wyoming, Utah State, San Diego State, or Colorado State, get money and even have hope of an upset?

Or you could play someone like Michigan and get both the money and the upset. Just ask App. State. If Cal Poly had a kicker this year they would have gotten the money ($500,000) and the upset over Wisconsin.

I think Weber should start playing SUU more. Cal Poly is a great match up too. Drop one of the two money games for SUU.

Because the big boys offer way more money than the WAC & MWC teams, that's why.

Not sure the beating ISU's going to get is worth it, especially if they get alot of players injured.

It beats losing hundreds of thousands of dollars and eventually having to ax the football program, which is what a lot of FCS schools would probably have to do if they didn't get play-up body bag games.

Well I hope they enjoy that game, I hear they play Arizona State the week before that, so they get about a million dollars in 2 weeks.

Maybe they'll put that money to good use and eventually field a consistent winner. Given the last 25 years, though, I'm guessing that won't happen.

Using that logic, Montana has NO rivalries.

12-1 vs Cal Poly
14-0 vs Sac State
13-3 vs EWU
23-2 vs ISU
20-3 vs MSU
20-1 vs NAU
8-1 vs UNC
12-2 vs PSU
19-3 vs WSU

Hell, we're even 8-2 in our last 10 against IDAHO and 5-4 in our last 9 against Boise State!.

Ellerson said the same thing when someone mentioned Cal Poly being a rival of Montana. He said rivals win more than one game out of 12. That being said, you got to admit that even though the Mustangs are only1 and 4 against the Griz in the last five games, every game was not decided until late in the fourth and were great games to watch.

Montana leads the series with Weber 36-12, not 19-3

The Weber vs SUU series started back in 1984, and the 2 teams played every year except 1986 and 1996.

SUU didnt even win a game vs Weber till 1999, 15 years. Its hard to make a small school rivalry, when the whole state of Utah concentrates more on the BYU-Utah rivalry.

Weber State and SUU dont even get any attention from the local Salt Lake based Media. The only press Weber gets is from a Weber/Davis county based newspaper.
