Kickoff scheduled for 5 pm PDT from Portland's Jeld Wen Field between the Southern Utah Thunderbirds and the Portland State Vikings, rekindling a rivalry from both of their DII years. This is technicaly the conference opener for both teams although the Vikings played Big Sky member North Dakota in a "nonconference" match in week 2. The Thunderbirds are 1-2 so far, beating DII New Mexico Highlands last week for their lone win. The Vikings are also 1-2 having lost to the Pac-12's Washington team in Seattle last week. The Thunderbirds will start their all conference and Payton award nominee, Brad Sorensen, at quarterback while the Vikings will counter with true freshman Kieren McDonaugh. Vikings receiver Justin Monahan is doubtful for the game. Weather called for cloudy skies, chance of rain and temps in the 60's, although the sun is out now and not many clouds around.

TV: Live coverage on Comcast Sports Network in Oregon and Washington. I do not think it is being broadcast in Utah. other than the CSN satillite.

Wow. Sounds like it was a hell of a game.

Hell of a Goaline stand by my T-Birds, knew this was going to be a shootout and Sorensen came to play, good game Vikings. SUU wins first Big Sky game, 1-0!!!!!

We had too many turnovers and gave Sorensen too many short fields to work with. When you have a stuggling defense, you can't give an experienced quarterback that many short fields. We ended up with almost 200 total yards more than the Thunderbirds so we had our chances to win the game. It didn't need to come down to a goal line stand.

Sidenote---Sorensen is extremely accurate. Where he put some of his throws were just amazing.
