JMU vs WVU @ Fed Ex Field

I said I wasn't going to do a separate thread for any of JMU's 1st 4 games (St Francis, Alcorn State, WVU @ Fed Ex and @ URI) since they would all likely be lopsided, but I changed my mind.
WVU will likely be the best offense JMU has ever faced. One of the top BCS offenses in the country with a legit Heisman contender in Geno Smith. In 99' JMU won the CAA and lost 47-0 to a Michael Vick led VT team went 11-0 regular season and lost to FSU in the national championship. That VT team was wicked good on offense, averaging over 40 points a game, and Vick finished 3rd in the Heisman balloting. But they probably weren't as good as this WVU offense. But the 99' VT team that JMU faced had a very good defense, unlike this WVU team, which has a reportedly very suspect defense, so think this will be the 2nd best team JMU has ever faced.
In WVU's last 2 games, vs Clemson in the Orange Bowl and at home against Marshall 9 days ago they have put up:
Clemson: 70 points, 595 yds offense
Marshall: 69 points, 655 yds offense
JMU could have one of the best defenses in all of I-AA, but holding Marshall to under 50 points will be a very tall order.

The one bright spot for JMU is that WVU gave up 34 points and 545 yds of offense to Marshall, a mediocre non BCS team. There defense is reportedly very suspect. Think you'll see some of the Big 12 teams putting up 30 some, 40 some, even 50+ on them. Think you'll see WVU involved in some 80-100 point Big 12 shootouts. That's why I don't think WVU will win the Big 12, and why JMU could put up some points on them.
I'm hoping JMU can hold WVU under 50 points. Predicting WVU 48, JMU 20.

FWIW in 2004 you had:
-presidential election yr
-JMU lost to WVU 45-10 in Sept
-JMU went on to finish regular season 9-2/7-1, then went on to win the national championship.
I'm hoping for some de ja vu

Mainly coach speak from the WVU coach:

Mickey Matthews interviewed by WVU radio guys: Mickey refers to WVU as 'King Kong'

Bull’s-eye on Dukes?
James Madison may be minus top ball-carrier

If JMU is without Dae'Quan I'll probably change my prediction from 48-20 to 48-13. JMU was also missing 4 yr starting senior FS Jakarie Jackson vs Alcorn and not sure if he'll be playing vs WVU..

Dae'Quan isn't playing. This is a huge loss for JMU as he's JMU's biggest playmaker. Last season over 1300 yds rushing. This season in only about 4 qtrs of football has had 20 carries for 180 yds, 3 TDs and 90 yds receiving for 2 TDs.
Jordan Anderson, 5'11"/215 rJr is a pretty good backup, 887 yds rushing/5.1 a carry last season, 63 yds this season on 13 carries, also 63 receiving yds & a TD. (JMU has played 5 tailbacks through the 1st 2 games).
This likely means a little bit less ball control and scoring for JMU, and a little more offensive opportunity for WVU's devastating offensive firepower. So I'm changing my prediction from 48-20 to 52-13. That would still beat the spread which has gone from JMU +37 to JMU +42.

Good news for JMU is that their starting WS and 2 deep corner who missed last week are back. Is a backup WS/FS Peter Rose who is listed as out. So it looks like 21 of 22 2 deep on both sides of the ball are playing.

Geno Smith is aboslutely ridiculous. Twice JMU had him bottled up for what looked like a sure sack, and he pulls a houdini, once completely a pass for a long gainer, the other time taking off for positive yds. 34 of 39 for 411 yds, 5 TDs. Certainly one of the best QBs JMU has ever faced, and JMU has faced a lot of good ones over the years, including a # that went on to the NFL.
WVU had 569 yds of total offense, and I don't think JMU's defense played that bad- were just way overmatched by the speed of WVU, esp those 2 stud receivers. That was the best offense JMU has ever faced, including the 99' Michael Vick led VT that avg over 40 pts a game, finished the regular season 11-0 and lost to FSU in the NC game. The last 3 WVU games they have scored: 70 vs Clemson in the Orange Bowl, 69 vs Marshall, and 42 vs JMU.

2 blown 1st and goal opportunities in the 3rd qtr. Down 28-3 to open the 2nd half, force WVU into only their 2nd punt of the game. What was disappointing for JMU:
-Drive it all the way down to 1st and goal at the WVU 3, and get stuffed on 4 straight plays.
-Stop WVU for a safety, get the ball back, drive it right back down the field. 1st and goal at the 9, 3rd and goal at the 2, one of the JMU receivers gets called for a false start (JMU receivers were called for about 5 during the game), making it 3rd and goal at the 7. A Thorpe pass gets tipped and intercepted.
So 2 trips with 1st and goal, 2 points instead of 14. 42-24 would have looked a hell of a lot more respectable than 42-12

The one thing I wanted to see out of the game was JMU not suffer any serious injuries:
-1st offensive play of the game JMU starting WR Daniel Brown tears his ACL, carted off the field, looks like done for the season.
-Late 2nd qtr JMU starting SS/LB Titus Till (who started for Maryland last yr) suffers an ankle injury.
-3rd qtr JMU starting DT Jordan Stanton gets a possible concussion so had to sit out the rest of the game.
-4th qtr JMU 2 deep corner Jeremiah Wilson (another MD transfer) slips returning a kick and looked liked he injured something with his leg. Didn't return.
With the latter 3 injuries don't know the severity, but none looked too bad.

JMU according to what someone posted on the JMU board:
JMU paid 350k + $10 for every ticket sold over 42.5k attendance.
45,511, so JMU got about 380k.
Not enough $ for getting your a** kicked by a top 10 BCS team.

45,511 compared to an Big East/ACC game just a few miles up the road with UConn @ Maryland that only drew 35,491. Heck, JMU/WVU game had more drunks alone than the UConn/MD game
Arrived at the Fed Ex lots about 11:45. Were already about 50 cars waiting to get in. By the time they opened the lots before 12:30 must have been several hundred. Great tailgate. Too many drunks at the tailgate and game- haven't seen that many drunks since a Jimmy Buffet concert in the 90s.
PD could have set up a DUI checkpoint outside of the stadium & probably gotten several thousand DUIs.
The drunken party atmosphere been talked about on the JMU board in a couple of threads.

I just wanted to get a post in this thread so you don't have to keep talking to yourself.
Hi BDK. How's it going? It's a shame UD and JMU don't play each other yet again this year. What is the CAA thinking?

Yes, I know, this thread has been like my own personal blog. Or like playing with myself.
Heck, there used to be a 1/2 doz or so of us on CS, but all the others were off and on. They must have all gone over to AGS. I guess the JMU fans that stray off the CAAZone must be all be over at AGS

Heck, on a couple threads on the CAAZone talk about WVU fans fighting each other, plastered walking the wrong way down escalators, puking. Heck there are 2 descriptions of WVU fans almost going over the upper deck railing.
Out in the parking lot after the game (our tailgate group was about a doz) 3 of us post tailgated for about an hr while the traffic cleared. The entire was a sea of empty beer cans, cups- in the thousands. And trash. Not sure why Fed Ex didn't provide trash bags.
Also there weren't enough port a potties. At one point near us there was about 4-5 port a potties with a line about 50 deep, mostly females. So I just pissed in the woods right behind our tailgate, which is what most guys parked along the wood line in I think it was "E" were doing. Heck come to think of it, a WVU chick (pretty hot one at that) took a leak in the woods right behind our tailgate.

This is what happens when you have 2 Top 20 Party schools going at it. Just last month:
West Virginia ranked as No. 1 school, for partygoers
(CNN) -- Perhaps right now in Morgantown, West Virginia, they are raising a glass, or rather a mug, to celebrate their No. 1 ranking from the Princeton Review.
Not as the best university for academics, but for being named the best party school in the United States.
The 22,000-plus students there like to let some steam off every now and now, according to the survey, which asked questions of about 325 people on 377 college campuses.
All the schools on the top 20 list have more than 15,000 students, save for DePauw, which came in at No. 12, and No. 19 University of Maine.
"The schools on this list are mostly large, public universities with strong academic and research profiles, as well as highly successful athletic programs," West Virginia said in a news release. "But in the big picture, clearly this list has no real credibility."
West Virginia also topped the "Lots of Beer" list while Providence College was No.1 for "Lots of Hard Liquor."
Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, led the "Stone Cold Sober" list.
"Schools on the 'Party Schools' list are those at which surveyed students' answers indicated a combination of: low personal daily study hours (outside of class), high usages of alcohol and drugs on campus and high popularity on campus for frats/sororities," the Princeton Review said on its website.
The Princeton Review is not affiliated with Princeton University. It is a test preparation and college admissions consulting company based in Framingham, Massachusetts.
Here is the full list of the top 20 party schools:
1) West Virginia University
2) University of Iowa
3) Ohio University
4) University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
5) University of Georgia
6) University of Florida in Gainesville
7) University of California-Santa Barbara
8) Florida State University
9) Miami University of Ohio
10) Syracuse University
11) Penn State University
12) DePauw University
13) University of Wisconsin-Madison
14) University of Mississippi
15) University of Texas-Austin
16) University of Maryland
17) University of South Carolina
18) James Madison University
19) University of Maine
20) University of Tennessee

Agree that was a crazy atmosphere, never seen such a large tailgate party for a college football game in my life. I know there are bigger ones, but that was just crazy. The trash was mind boggling. It looked like a bomb went off and scattered debris everywhere. There were portable bathrooms in the parking lot mainly in D and C lots.

It's a Maryland thing. Try to find one at a Torson game.

Men Accused of Assaulting Party Bus Driver
Police arrested two Arlington men on Saturday and charged them with assaulting the driver of a party bus.
According to police, the incident happened around 9:20 p.m. after party bus — also called a “keg bus” — had returned to the East Falls Church Metro station from the West Virginia University/James Madison University football game at FedEx Field in Maryland. The bus had been “trashed,” according to police, and the driver demanded extra payment for cleaning and for the extra hour and a half the bus had been in use over the original scheduled time.
At that point, police say, three intoxicated suspects on the bus started punching and kicking the driver. The suspects then fled the scene, leaving the individual who used his credit card to pay for the bus behind, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.
The bus driver suffered a busted lip, swollen eye and bruises, Sternbeck said, but did not require hospitalization.
Eventually, police caught up with two of the suspects. Matthew Torok and Cory Kane, both 23-year-old Arlington residents, were arrested and charged with assault by mob. Both were held without bond. So far, police have not been able to locate the third suspect.
Sternbeck did not know whether the bus passengers were WVU or JMU fans.
