So we have one week in the books!

Based on the outcomes, which team's performance left you most surprised? We can argue over who had the best performance forever.

I included losses as well, because while some performances were surprisingly good , others were surprisingly bad.

Sorry NoCo, Weber, and UC Davis fans, but there were only ten choices, and....welp, I didn't see those results as very surprising.

Feel free to comment, if you disagree, though.

I picked NAU getting blasted by Arizona State. NAU has played well in the past against the other Arizona schools, not this time.

I went with ISU. did not think they would have that high of an offensive output or score that many points.

ISU for me with the rushing yards against and the passing yds.

I went with NAU. No Big Sky team should ever lose a game that badly, Pac-12 team or not.

Given that 3/4s of professional prognosticators said they would lose and that better than half of all polls had San Diego ahead of Cal Poly...the 41-14 whipping is somewhat surprising (sarcasm)

I wouldn't say our game with Carroll was any surprise. In the end, we showed what everyone thought (or should have thought), that the best of the NAIA is still roughly 3 touchdowns behind an average Big Sky team. No surprise.

On the other hand, after the demise of the WAC, Idaho has emphatically rebuffed any ideas of returning to the Big Sky, going so far as announcing that, while they will be in the Big Sky in other sports, they will go independent in football. By opening against EWU, they had a great chance to show all why they are so much better than the top of the Big Sky and could not get it done. That to me is very surprising.

I hope that all the BSC teams work on pass defence. Air force had there starting d in all game and was having all kinds of problems with ISU throwing the ball.

I watched that BSC Preview show on Root last night and the Big Human said 'yeah our offense is gonna run...their gonna run from the sidelines onto the field and that's about it.'

True Freshman RB Xavier Finney surprised Bengal fans yesterday. He'll be able to run against BSC competition. ISU was throwing the ball around without deep threat Roderick Rumble in the lineup; he threw a punch against EWU last year following a defensive pass interference and served his one game suspension at Air Force.

I hope for your sake that's true. We tried the throw it every down thing last year after our o-line was descimated. While we finished the season 6-1, we got a little lucky along the way, had Payton Award winning QB, and great depth at WR. Your defense just ends up being on the field for too long.

Went with Idaho State, glad to see that the Bengals are already looking like an improving team and think they may have a few surprises/upsets this season if they continue to play like that. And is anyone surprised a triple option team racked up that much rushing yardage?

Now for my Thunderbirds, our secondary needs to improve and so does our tackling but I think Sorensen will bounce back, Utah State is a good team this year (look even better then last season) and think they will give the Utes some fits next Saturday. Just wish my T-Birds had an easier schedule this season, would take an FCS team over Cal anyday.

EWU - Defense demoralizes Idaho in Moscow: WIN 20-3 - Not shock here. Idalol is terrible.

Montana - After the offseason problems, Griz explode 98 plays for 568 yards vs. USD: WIN 35-24 - Don't know enough about USD to know what they lost. If they lost a lot then not a big surprise.

North Dakota - Scores 45 first half points vs. SD Mines; some injuries, though: WIN 66-0 - A lot of points against a non-D1 team. Kind of surprising about the score, but not much beyond that.

Montana State - D McGhee throws 4 touchdowns, despite slow offensive start vs. Chadron: WIN 33-6 - Zero surprise here.

Cal Poly - 323 yards rushing; Broadus 4 total TDs in the rout of San Diego: WIN 41-14 - CP rolls a non-schollie program. No surprise here.

PSU - Bit of a struggle at home vs. NAIA juggernaut Carroll; Lose Zach Brown, but...: WIN 38-20 - A little bit of a surprise, but I've heard people say Carroll is a dominant program at their level.

Sac State - Despite NMST being "down", and many predicting a Sac win, it wasn't close: LOSS 19-49 - A ton of new starters and a new offense, not a big surprise. It was a 28-19 game midway through the 3rd quarter.

NAU - Nothing goes right for the Lumberjacks vs. ASU, and Bauman is hurt....ouch: Loss 6-63 - No surprise in the loss, a bigger surprise on the score. Losing 2 key players us huge.

ISU - Despite giving up nearly 500 rushing to AF, Bengals put up 430+ through the air: Loss 21-49 - No surprise. ISU moved the ball last season and IMO AF never really has a good defense.

SUU - Sorensen looks pedestrian, but USU is really good: Loss 3-34 - This got my vote. With Sorensen I thought SUU would put up more points. USU isn't as terrible as they once were but maybe they are a lot better than I give them credit for.

They lost to St. Xavier University (Chicago) in the championship last year. Also St. Xavier is presently ranked #1 in the NAIA polls so I would not Carroll the best at this time.

No, I didn't miss the point. I know some kids that play for St. Xavier and just giving them the credit they have earned. Winning a National Championship at any level is an accomplishment.

Well it surprised me...Carroll had more 1st downs and nearly the same amount of yards on offense ...The game, at least in my opinion, was closer than the 18 point difference.

Not really that close. Out of Carroll's total yardage, 250 of it came in the first half. They also had 12 points in the first half. They added a touchdown and two-point conversion against our 3rd string D with 1:30 left in the game to get within 2.5 touchdowns.
