CAA teams play 10 games against I-A. 4 of them are this weekend, including maybe 3 of the 4 best chances in :
-TU @ Kent
-VU @ Temple
-W&M @ Maryland (who should be the worst ACC team this season).
-UNH has a shot @ Minnesota next week.
With the other 5 games I don't see much chance of the CAA getting a victory.
JMU vs WVU (Fed Ex Field): No
TU @ LSU: Hell no
GST @ Tenn: Hell no
Maine @ BC: No
URI @ Bowling Green: No
Little bit of trivia. The last season that the CAA didn't get a win over a I-A? 2001. But that season the then 10 CAA teams only played 3 I-A games:
UMass lost to Marshall
W&M lost to ECU
UR lost to UVA

Towson 27 Kent State 24 - Tigers start off season on high note.
Delaware 35 West Chester 12 - Series ends, thankfully
SC State 24 Georgia St 14 - GSU loses to MEAC team as Bill Curry & GA ST both begin last season
New Hampshire 33 Holy Cross 24 - UNH starts quest for 9th straight playoff berth
Temple 27 'Nova 17 - Cats too young, can't stay with Owls
UVA 38 Richmond 10 - Beginning of long season for the Arachnids
W&M 20 UMD 17 - Terps add pride to long injury list
JMU 31 St Francis (PA) 9- Dukes send visitors back to PA with valuable lesson.
ODU 34 Duquesne 17 - ODU starts season well
CAA 6-3 Week 1

SC ST plays @ GST tonight, not Sat as I originally posted. Fixed it. Looked and there's about 30ish Div I games on tonight. As many games with CAA teams tonight (4) as Sat.

Darn good week for me:
Kent 31 - Torson 21 (41-21)
UNH 27 - Holy Cross 17 (38-17)
Delaware 31 - WCUPA 7 (41-21)
Temple 34 - Nova 10 (41- 10)
UVA 38 - Richmond 13 (43-19)
SC State 28 - GaSt 20 (33-6)
JMU 42 - St Francis 3 (55-7)
ODU 45 - Duquesne 20 (57-23)
And even though I got one outcome wrong, it was probably my best pick of the week. When I said OT winner, I was going for 7-7 in regulation, a MD FG and W&M TD in OT.
W&M 13 - Maryalnd 10 (OT)

That is some good pickin 89.
And even better self-back-patting.

Perennial juggernaut 93henfan (aka 93bluehen on GoHens) is 14th/64 in the GoHens pick'em and 8th/28 in the spread pool. Probably would be 1 and 1 if I hadn't fucked up and given Towson some props.
Bitches need to bury me deeper than that early if they hope to contain me. I haven't even gotten warmed up yet.
Damn Andy, I thought your dead-fish handshake coach would have your newly rejuvenated, this-is-not-your-granddaddy's Towson team ready to play. The schedule only gets harder from here boss.

Yes. I was stoopid. I thought Torson had evolved.

Well, I don't expect there to be a JMU game thread for the first 5 weeks:
9/1 Saint Francis: Lopsided win
9/8 Alcorn State: Should be lopsided win.
9/15 vs WVU @ Fed Ex Field: Should be lopsided loss.
9/22 @ URI: should be easy win
9/29 Bye.
I''m sure I or someone else will start one for the nationally televised showdown with Torson on 10/6. In the mean time I'll just put my post game

on that week's CAA Prediction thread.
Good news for JMU on the SF win:
-55-7
-602 yards total offense (377 rushing, 225 passing)
-only gave up 155 (2 deep through 2 2/3 qtrs only gave up 155)
-almost everyone through the 2 deep looked pretty good
-no major injuries: starting WS (achilles (non tear)) and 2 deep corner (shoulder) are doubtful for Alcorn State.
The bad: Thorpe just looked so-so at best passing, going 15-27 for 177, 1 TD, 0 INT. He did had one pass that he put right in the hands of JMU's pro prospect TE Brian Barlow that Barlow dropped, but that is the only incompletion that I recall that should have been caught. The other 11 were off, some way off. His rushing wasn't an issue, and it never should be as long as he doesn't fumble. He's listed at 6'1"/225 (10 lbs heavier than last yr) and runs a 4.4 something. Besides the 1 sack he took, he had 10 carries for 80 yds.

#2 QB.
JMU lost last yr's #2 QB, a QB from TX who started 5 games as a rFr when Thorpe was suspended, and a then rFr 3 star transfer from Kansas State who apparently was a bust.
JMU brought in Lafonte Thourogood, a 4 star transfer from Vandy who everyone on the JMU board assumed would be Thorpe's backup is still dogged by a hamstring injury that he had at Vandy. In addition to that I think there is a reason a slew of major BCS offered him but not at QB. There is a reason Vandy gave him a shot at QB but moved him to RB....
JMU signed 3 HS QBs. The 2 most hyped were 6'1"/185 lb Taylor Reynolds of Newark, DE, and 6'6"/245 lb Ian Fisher of Brunswick, MD. The least hyped was 6'4"/225 lb (was listed at 215-220 as an HS senior) Michael Birdsong of the Richmond, VA area. Mickey Matthews did say Birdsong was the best HS QB in the state of VA last yr. I thought that was typical Mickey being Mickey hyperbole. Then I looked at Rivals and saw no HS QBs from VA had any signed with any I-A (a 3 star FUMA PG QB from Ohio signed with Ohio State), and the only other Div I signee HS QB signee from VA signed with NCCU. So maybe he was the best HS QB in the state of VA, but that doesn't mean too much with the 2012 signing class for HS QBs in VA..
Well, several people on the JMU board commented on watching JMU's summer practice and the Birdsong kid looked pretty good. At least one said he remined him of Villanova's Chris Whitney as a freshman. Birdsong won the #2 job over Reynolds and Fisher who are both redshirting.
Well, Birdsong comes in during the 3rd qtr vs SF. At 1st I was pissed- I was saying to people around me, "Why is Mickey burning this kid's redshirt? Put in Thourogood- he's dressed, and even with a bum hammy he ought to be able to hand off. Or put in Da'quan in the wildcat. Heck, we're up 41-0 and we're burning this kids redshirt."
Well, Birdsong's 1st couple of plays consisted of turning the wrong way on a couple of hand offs along with a dropped snap. Kid had to be nervous. Then a switched must have flipped. He settled down and in 2 series went 6 for 7 passing, 1 TD. Every pass was on the money with velocity. The one incompletion was a bullet that went right through the receivers hands. I don't think either Rodney Landers, nor Justin Rascati, who led JMU to a the NC in 04' had a high 60s completion rate, had the arm this kid has. He had 3 rushes for 40 yds. One was a 30 yarder where he absolutely trucked a St Francis defender. I know people will say yeah, yeah, but look who he was playing against....
Now I see why the comparison to Whitney was made. Whitney, who started the last half or so of the 07' season for Villanova as a true Fr, was listed as slightly smaller (6'3"/220) that year. Whitney, who would try to run people over as soon as run around them, may have been a little better runner, but he had a popgun arm. He doesn't have the arm this Birdsong kid has. Sucks that Birdsong's redshirt had to get burned, but he got PT vs Saint Francis, should vs Alcorn St, and maybe will in JMU's next 2 games vs WVU and URI too. I think JMU has found their QB of the future for either be it if Thorpe goes down this season, if Thorpe doesn't get a 6th yr next yr, or 2014.
I know, he looks like Opie:
