Anyone else looking forward with bittersweet tenderness to the 54th and final installment in the historic, always competitive Delaware-West Chester series?
Yeah, I didn't think so.
Anyway, it'll be nice to replace them with an FCS cream puff that counts for a D1 win going forward.

That's the funny part.

Nah, there's plenty of teams in the MEAC or Patriot that could fit the bill: 1) be an even easier opponent than West Chester 2) count as a win for playoff consideration and) be willing to come to Newark for a little cash. Case in point, Bucknell's on the schedule this year. That's a clean sweep on all three counts!

Yeah, we should try to get Fordman so we can meet Joltin' Joe.

Trying to convince the wife to make some cupcakes for Thursday's tailgate in honor of WCU. Back when I went to UD it was actually a very competitive game, hasn't been that way for almost 20 years though now.
84-0 sums it about up. Don't need any games that "don't count" anymore.

The Ivies won't come a-callin.' I still remember the Big Hurt the Hens laid on Penn and Princeton 30 years ago.

Do both sides want to end the relationship? Would you be open to resuming the "rivalry" should WCU move up? I think there's an open northern spot in the Big South.

At least the Hens are making the decision. UND rejected NDSU's 4 year home and home after they refused to follow the Bision to I-AA at the time.

As they should of....we were all taught last year that a D1 wins hurts D2 teams come playoff time.....at least that is what we were told about how the 03 NDSU team that beat Montana. They missed the playoff before a win against Montana HURT them.
UND wouldn't have wanted that to be the reason they missed the playoff.

They has some strange formula's in DII back then, counting Montana win less than a DII win.

Hey, my apologies in advance for Thursday. I'll be there, but not in time to do much tailgating. My grill is in Maryland, my dad is in Tennessee on vacation (bad planning pop - but he hates WCU game), and I have to work until 5 pm. I'll probably be rolling into the Gold Lot when you are packing up your stuff to go in. It's a school night too, so no kids. Probably just me unless anyone here needs a freebie ticket. Ivy? I have two extras.

Excuses for what? I'll be there.
Do you even
have season tickets any more? You've been to what? Two games in the last three years?

This will be my second year without tix. I think I've made two per year last three years. That's why I gave them up.

West Chester.. although seldom a winner vs UD.. use to be an fairly entertaining game until the early '90's. WCU de-emphasized back then and as a result the series should have ended about 15 yrs ago. Better late than never.

I thought this was an intersting way of saying it:
Jon Buzby @JonBuzby
Perry on the end of the WCU-UD rivalry: "We have been dictated by other people not to play this game." #bluehens #udel
'Dictated by others'? Hopefully the 'others' he's referring to are the FCS selection committee. Are there actually people out there in the Delaware fan base that are going to miss this game? If getting West Chester off the schedule required dictation from others, then thank goodness for the 'others'. Jeesh.

With Stony Brook out, hopefully the Big South can ge a southern school in there to fill the void.

They wouldn't move up with their current athletics program. WCUPA is almost the size of UD. Since you're a baseball guy, you should know they just won the D2 baseball NC last year. Not saying they're world beaters, but I don't think you know anything about WCUPA.

I edited while you were responding. I saw WCU and thought of Western Carolina. As soon as I posted, I realized that I got the wrong WCU.
