What makes it even worse for them is that we only played 27 players the entire game.

There's been a spike in articles about the game since September 1st will be the 5-year anniversary.

We're gonna get killed in 2014 though.

The way things are looking, 2014 could be a NC contention year in Ann Arbor.....

As a Michigan fan there are no excuses. I knew the team would struggle with fast, spread option teams, and expected a loss to Dennis Dixon's Oregon Ducks.....I knew ASU was going to be better than most of the fan base assumed, as most UM fans are elitists (much like most BCS team fans), but I expected a Michigan team with a top 3 QB in team history, top 3 RB in team history, top 3 lineman in team history, and a good defense to win that game.....

What a big surprise...Michigan football making excuses. Amazing that the Gophers don't make excuses when the Bison beat them, but the Wolverines can't help themselves...and they're supposed to be the "class of the Big Ten." What a friggin joke.

I for one don't have any clue what to expect in 2014. Brady Choke might be going on about a "revenge season" in 2014, but I don't know how good App State will be then. Here's hoping they pull off another one in Ann Arbor. The first one was so enjoyable, after all.

I was still a High Schooler back then in NYC. (little knowledge of the college football world) But now that I'm a CFB fan I would love to see this again. A second victory in 2014!!

Ace Williams, is a no name hack who wrote on chatsports.....seems legit.

Highly doubt Lloyd Carr would let any of that happen.

That's all in the past though. I'm loving this 11-2 season and fresh off a BCS win.

The app state blood will flow on August 30, 2014. I know Brady Hoke will be making the team watch that entire game to fire them up.

Just curious.....

I'm guessing that UM solicited this game to fill the schedule and are mindful that this game took a toll on the UM fanbase and are looking for redemption, revenge, whatever you want to call it. What if, by some crazy stroke of lightning ASU pulled another one out in '14? Would you likely see athletic department shakeups like '07?

I promise you that this team will have that game beaten into their heads. That won't ever happen again. app state is forever linked to us in history so why not play them again and right the wrong?

I was ready for this game the moment it was announced over a year ago.

It was a dumb move IMO for App to schedule this game - better to have bragging rights. Any word on the payout? I imagine it's a bit higher than '07.

Hey, einstein, that 11-2 season and BCS win only happened because Michigan had 8 home games and they only beat TWO ranked teams all year long! So keep pretending that Brady Hoke is the 2nd coming of Bo Schembechler and that Wisconsin and Ohio State are just going to roll over and die because big, bad Michigan is coming with their imitation Delaware helmets, Notre Dame-level relevancy, and Charlie Weis-sized coach.

Renegotiate for seven figures, UM will pay anything to play this game...

I read the payout was $850K if App is still FCS and $1M if they were transitional FBS. App might as well beat them again as I've got room on one of my office walls for some more victory swag! I'm gonna try and sit as close as possible to the seats I had in 07 for the 2012 game for luck....gotta love Stubhub!

Flip the coin, and let's rock.

Not such a bright idea to re-schedule Michigan, but by 2014 they will likely be high on toad, anyway.

You, being the FBS fan you are (and how NDSU schedules), should appreciate the fact Michigan is able to get 8 home games a year.

Brady Choke? Based on what? The guy has won EVERYWHERE he has been...including Ball freaking State.

11-2 with much the same team from the year before, and top ranked classes coming in.

Keeping thinking Michigan is going away....they aren't.

A. He beat 2 ranked teams. NDSU probably could have gone 11-2 against that schedule.
B. Brady Hoke is not even the best coach in the state of Michigan, let alone the Big Ten
C. Last year's 11-2 win was a product of several fluke wins and a ridiculous 80% FR ratio. Michigan, high or not, recovered 80% of all of theirs and their opponents' fumbles in 2011. The law of averages says that they won't win as many close games nor recover fumbles at that rate in 2011 because the statistical average for all teams is around 50% for them. So that will shave a few wins off.

Oh, and I think I forgot to mention that Urban Meyer is the new coach in Columbus, and every one already knows that he is a better coach than everyone not named Saban in college football. Brady Hoke's name is not Brady Saban, or Saban Hoke. Therefore, Urban Meyer is a better coach than Brady Hoke. He's won everywhere, including freaking Bowling Green.

Just start smoking the grass now, Michigan. You'll need plenty of excuses this year.

Hoke was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by both the media and the coaches and was a finalist for national coach of the year honors....seems he did something right.

The main reason Michigan was terrible under Rich Rod was their defense. That problem has been more or less solved.
Michigan's defense went from being ranked 107th in scoring defense in 2010 (35.2 points per game) to being ranked sixth (17.38 points per game) in 2011. Michigan recovered a lot of those fumbles because Mattison stresses stripping the ball and jumping on it. Will it be 80% again this year? Likely not, but it will be over 50 again. The defense also returns 8 starters from last years team this coming year.

The offense was always good, but last year had 2 1000 yard rushers for the first time since 1975, both are back this year. Michigan finally found it self a kicker after about 4 years without one. Under Rich Rod it was TD or nothing. The FG team was horrible, and many times a FG wasn't attempted on 4th and 5 from the 15-25 yard line because there was no kicker. Last year Gibbons went 13-17 and was 54-55 on EP's. It's no longer TD or bust for Michigan.

In one month of being the HC Brady Hoke put together a top 25 ranked recruiting class for the 2011 signing class.

All of those close games Michigan was lucky to win? Of the 11 wins, only 3 were by less than a TD....Michigan's W's last year were by 24, 4, 28, 21, 58, 18, 22, 17, 38, 6, 3. Yeah...average margin of victory was 27.2 last season. Oh, that's because the schedule was weak? How many ranked teams did Alabama beat? A massive 4. Oregon? 3. Wisconsin? 3. Michigan State? 3. Nebraska? 2. South Carolina? 2...last two games of the year. Southern Cal? 1. Arkansas? 4. Hell, every single team I thought would have more than Michigan had less than 4 ranked wins...only team that had more than that was LSU at 8. I guess all of those teams seasons are overrated too....they didn't beat that many ranked teams. Was Michigan's SOS top in the nation? Nope. It was still top 30-40 depending which SOS system you look at.

Oh, and Hoke brought in the #4 recruiting class in the nation this past year....and with 22 commits for the 2013 class is #2 in the nation for that class so far. The Wolverines' 14 four-star commitments matches LSU for most in the country.

Is Hoke at Saban level? Not yet, but Michigan isn't far from what they were of the late 90's and early 00's right now.
