If you're looking for Boiling Springs, Spartanburg or Greenville, they're in the Appalachia poll.

Just as Boiling Springs, Spartanburg, and Greenville (and I'm assuming the Western Carolina - WCU area) were included in the Appalachia poll, I believe North Charleston and Charleston should have been combined to represent one area. I am a Charleston Southern alum and I can tell you during my time at CSU I spent my share of time in downtown Charleston and hung out with plenty of friends at CofC and the Citadel. It really isn't as far as most people think.

As a result, I have cast my vote for Charleston. It represents the entire South Carolina low country. A great metropolitan college town.

Charleston is not a college town. I live here. Not close. Greenville should be on the list.

What? :dunce: :dunce: :dunce: Charleston, home to 2 4 -year colleges on the peninsula isn't a college town? It's not like Clemson where the town revolves around the schools, but Charleston is a college town. I guess NYC isn't a college "town" either. The downtown retailers and restaurants cater to the college student, there is the Game Day atmosphere with both schools and there are the stereotypical CofC and Citadel stickers and paraphernalia in the stores and eateries.

I've lived here longer than you, i'm sure. I've taken part of the CofC and Citadel events. I've been to the pep rallies and the parades in the streets. Charleston is a college town.

And if you read his first post, he states why Greenville was left out. Greenville isn't a college town. Furman is outside the city. North Greenville is further out. Are you saying that the closest schools, Bob Jones is what makes Greenville a college town? Bob Jones is on the outskirts of town. The Citadel is close to the neck but near the center. CofC is in the middle of the peninsula.

What is your definition of "college town."

You can debate Charleston as a "college town" but it is one of the coolest places to visit in the US. :thumb:

Not even close. No real schools. Not a single football playing "decent" team. Not to mention a powerhouse. Weak basketball schools must make college towns nowadays.

I live on Folly Beach. Nobody is ever mistaken Charleston for a college town. 80 percent of CofC's students are "yankees". And I hate to use that stupid word.

What a great arguement. Let's take them down.

1) No real schools. Tell me, in what ways are The Citadel and CofC fake shools? What a stupid comment.

2) Not a single football playing "decent" team. Again, a dumb comment. Who said a sports team has to be good for the town to be a "college town". By your assumptions, Clemson is not a college town b/c it only has one decent sport team AND it's not a powerhouse. The CofC Baseball and Basketball team do well and have been dominant. Remember when GSU use to be a powerhouse?

3) Not to mention a powerhouse. This alone with negate most towns.

4) Give me the authoritative source. See #2.

You're opinion seems to be based on a negative, bias.

Btw, where on Folly Beach? My family has an oceanfront beachhouse (bought it in 1947). I'm living in Summerville right now, but am planning on buying a home in West Ashley soon.

Btw, 141 out of 2,361 Freshman at CofC are out of state. That's a consistent figure.

Greensboro's got five colleges, but doesn't seem like a college town.
