Best Regional (Southwest) FCS College Town

So, in the spirit of Van Pelt's "Best College town".. I'm going to start a regional poll (seeing as how only 10 options are allowed in a poll), starting with the American Southwest.. Represented by the Big Sky (Cal Poly, U.C. Davis, Northern Arizona, Southern Utah, Weber State, Sacramento State), and the Pioneer (San Diego).
What is the best "college sports town"- Pelt feels a real college sports town should be the "only show in town" and the town should have something to offer regarding night life, or leisure activities.. some sort of draw.

Anyway, next will be the best Northwest FCS town.
Please feel free to post pictures, or justify why you made your decision.

Sac isn't exactly "southwest...." We're in Superior California, not SoCal or LoCal....

I would say 9/10 Americans, if asked to group into regions, would consider Sacramento "the SouthWest".

ES....ummm I'm sorry I know us Poly folks should stay united but there is no way that 9/10 would call Sac the Southwest, frankly I have a tough time calling SLO the southwest.

For FCS intents, groupings, and purposes, SLO seems to be in the Southwest to me.

Depends how you want to define SW.....
This map is based on the Geographic midpoint of the contiguous USA.
This is based on counting all 50 states
Blows your mind when you actually start looking at what is southwest, northwest, northeast, southeast, north central, south central
Yes, I realize that isn't perfect and I didn't account for the curve of the earth - but it is pretty damn close.

FWIW....here is where I think of when I get "regional"
East to west
Maroon - Northeast
Green - Southeast
Pink - Not really sure what I'd call that acrea
light Blue - Lakes
Brown - Midwest
Purple - North Central
Orange - South Central
Red - Southwest
Yellow - Mountain
Tan - desert
Blue - Pacific/West Coast
Grey - Northwest.
Yes, there will be overlap in some areas - I.E. the lakes area will involve parts of northcentral and midwest....and the boarders aren't perfect. However, that is pretty damn close to what I think of as US regions

While I might quibble about some fo the borders in clenz' scheme, overall that jives with what I'd think. Remember, though, that the "desert" of Nevada isn't all desert and that the desert extends south into AZ and west into SoCal. Believe me, the 135 degree temperatures in the training areas at 29 Palms are NO joke!

I voted for Davis and San Luis Obispo - they are both small towns dominated by the presence of their respective universities. Cedar Cedar might also be included but I've never been there. Sacramento and San Diego may have a lot of things to do but they are distinct from college activities.

Geographically, California may be in the southwest, but I think most people in the Golden State just think of themselves as "west". Culturally I think more of Arizona, New Mexico, and west Texas when I hear southwest. But that's neither here nor there. Out of the options presented, I agree in choosing Davis and SLO. Both are towns where the college runs the town... (but neither are towns where football runs the college, if that makes sense). While there are plenty of leisure activities in Davis and SLO, "nightlife" in the traditional sense isn't one of them. But I feel safe walking around at any hour in either place. Sac, San Diego, and Portland are big cities... big cities which unfortunately overlook their own FCS teams. Odgen and Cedar City? If you thought nightlife was dull in Davis, try a state where the rubbers are locked up behind glass. I can't really comment on Flagstaff.

I wouldn't, but I don't know if I would say NW either.

I agree, the only part of Ca I consider SW would be from the Grapevine South.

Other than the fact that eastern Montana is almost as flat as ND, I like it.
