All the bowls remain. All this is, is a and one game that will not be a bowl.

It's the beginning of the end for the bowls:
First, keep in mind they're going to go to 7-wins to qualify for the postseason which will immediately kill about a half-dozen bowl games as 6-6 teams are ineligible.
Second, the $$ payouts for bowl games are going to now shrink. Example: The former "BCS bowls" that had fat money allocated to them are no longer "BCS bowl games" - look for the guaranteed $$ payouts to those participating teams to drop as the $$ is funneled toward the Final Four & NC games. How do you think the postseason $$ is going to estimated triple? It's a TV deal for those games, the bowl games will quickly resemble the NIT.

Rose, Fiesta, Orange and Cotton will all continue to have the 1-4 and 2-3 games, which will all have the big money payouts.

Oh Andy you're right - those games will be in the rotation, along with the Sugar and one more game, but all the other current bowl games will suffer - the Alamo Bowl, the Champs Sports, check that Russell Athletic Bowl, the Pinstripe Bowl, the bowl game they play at RFK.....

It is only a four team "playoff" using bowls. Nothing has changed

Keep telling yourself that. Please list the semi-final games that were played the past decade. Since nothing has changed.

Ok - a little has changed. Four teams instead of two. Still, not a real playoff with access for all. And a 12 year agreement means it will stay that way

That's the key phrase. Yea, there's a crack of access for teams outside the big 4 leagues if they have "special years", but again it all comes back to money and in this case - control.

I suspect that, as happened when the bogus B(C)$ first started, someone will try to find a way to squeeze out the Cotton Bowl....

Like I said in Old GUy's thread....they're GETTING there...but slowly. Maybe in my lifetime they'll have an ACTUAL playoff....but this beats the BCS all to hell.

This college football championship is still a creation of the BCS committee, not the NCAA. As far as the NCAA is concerned there are still Division I bowl teams, and teams that play for the NCAA Division I championship.
Not that the general public will notice.

You mean the same NCAA that almost ran what we call the FCS Tournament into the ground financially??

Exactly. Can anyone name another "playoff" system that STARTS with the semifinals?

Major League Baseball did it successfully that way for decades.

But they changed it, didn't they?

I agree. To me all they did was change from 2 teams to 4 and go from picking teams using the polls/power ratings combination to picking them using a selection committee.
If I understand correctly they'd already gotten to the point where the BCS championship game was not a bowl. Last year they had the Sugar Bowl then had the BCS championship game at the same stadium later. It wasn't a bowl game.
So now they're still going to have one BCS championship game after the bowls are over. Only difference is that instead of knowing who the two teams are going to be in December we'll know it's going to be two of four teams to be determined by who wins two Bowl games at the end of the Bowl season.
It's still a "Bowl" subdivision. In fact moreso because now a couple of Bowls are going to determine who's going to be in the championship game wheras last year the Bowls themselves had no role in that.

That has nothing to do with the fact it will still be a bowl subdivision and a championship subdivision.
