Failed test after Villanova game, still played versus Montana...
James Madison announced Thursday that defensive tackle J.D. Skolnitsky will not return to the football team for the 2009 season because he tested positive for a banned substance after a drug test following the NCAA playoff game with Villanova.

I'm gonna guess that they just got the results back. Could be wrong though....

Yeah, there's no official story yet... hopefully JMU didn't have the results prior to the Montana game

That sure wouldn't make them in a very good light.

There is no way they had the results prior to the Montana game.
Here's the quote from section 8.2.1 of the NCAA Drug Test Policy'
For NCAA individual/team championships, only positive test results will be reported to the insti-tution.Positive results should be made availablewithin approximately 30 days of the collection.

How is this going to affect JMU's defense? I'm too lazy to look for stats or awards received by the guy

I don't know, but you need to find a different job, so you can spend more time on this board. We need more Montana posters.

It was an on-line diet supplement that caused the positive test...

Always surprising to realize with all the coaches and trainers around a football team, the players can't get any good information on which supplements work and which don't.
Stupid move by the kid. Sorry, not trying to be harsh.

Three of our lineman made the All CAA team (2nd and 3rd team)... he wasn't one of them. He had started for the past two years and it always hurts to lose a starter, but he wasn't the anchor of that line.

Yeah, it was a bone head move... they actually do have information about what supplements NCAA players can take and the players are encouraged to check with the trainers/coaches first before taking a supplement to make sure it's ok. Apparently he had done this numerous times in the past, but didn't on this occasion.

I would bet many of the trainers/coaches wouldn't know outside of a provided list, which supplements work and which don't. At least that has been the case in regards to all the trainers I have met in the past. Of course my "sample size" is not vast, so maybe I just have met some that weren't on the ball.

I'd have to agree with you there, look at what happened to J.C. Romero for the Phillies. He was told by trainers and the players association that the supplement he was taking was fine with the MLB. He tested positive and learned that the supplement was in fact not legal, he stopped taking it, was tested again and tested negative (but subsequently received a 50 game suspension

). It's a shame this JMU player didn't go to the trainers as they do have insight into what the NCAA deems as proper supplements. GNC even sells supplements that are targeted toward NCAA athletes. Which makes this a stupid move, he should have at least asked.
