You've probably heard the Philly area posters on here wax poetic on the urban blight of Chester, PA. Here's one of many recent local stories on how a relationship between a city & a stadium is quickly souring...

"At night, I'm scared to walk six blocks to get a bag of chips. I gotta wait 'til morning. But during a game, I'm as safe as can be," said Jesse Berry, 36, a laborer who lives about a half-mile from the stadium. "It's like the police officers are giving them security, but once the game's over, for the people that live here, you gotta play at your own risk."
They are giving them security, otherwise you'd have an empty stadium in a shitty city. :dunce:

Gotta admit, though, it was a much, much better place to watch a game that the crappy on campus stadium nova has.

And truth be told, with all those cops there you won't have a repeat of the nova priest drukenly trying to run down UD fans after the game like what happened in Radnor. I mean, you could be shot, but wayward driving priests probably won't happen.

And yes, you wonder why nova ever floated the idea that they could play there, even without an expansion, and play BCS level football. And obviously, dropping another $60M-$100M, at least, into the place to expand it to just 30k would've been surely rejected if this is really the climate of the relationship between the Union and Chester. Gotta hand it to Chester - they find a way to ensure that that place continues to sink further and further into the morass they are already in.

A few years ago I sailed up the Delaware to one of the small yacht clubs about a mile north of the stadium. It was in the middle of the day and I swear I heard a gun shot as I sailed past Chester. :o

Last team to beat Chester...Sanford. :thumb:

You're right, they went undefeated winning the state this past year, I think they were 3rd in the nation. Odds on favorite to repeat again too.
