Hopefully coach Sears can lead to Wildcats to a great season

Former coach at EWU. What do Eagle's fans think of him?

Sounds to me like he's a promotion who was already on the staff as DC. :? :? :?

Yes, joined the staff this spring as DC. Will continue to act as DC.

"Sears brings nearly 20 years of coaching experience to Weber State. Before coming to Weber State he spent the past three seasons at Washington State where he spent the last three seasons as the co-defensive coordinator with the Cougars under head coach Paul Wulff, a former college teammate at Washington State. He also coached the cornerbacks at his alma mater.

He is no stranger to the Big Sky Conference as he spent five seasons (2003-07) as the defensive coordinator at Eastern Washington, also under Paul Wulff. During his time with the Eagles he coached safeties, linebackers and defensive backs. In his five seasons at Eastern Washington he coached seven players to Big Sky All-Conference honors."

He would make an easy transition to Paul Wulff if they went that direction. I think Wulff is an upgrade over JLS. If I where a Weber State fan I would have my fingers crossed that WSU is talking with Wulff.

Agreed.

JLS was a dinosaur. Weber is lucky to have him gone....

Let's just say that under Wulff/Sears' tenure, we weren't known for our defense...

Good luck! :thumb: :D

And EWU is still not known for their defense... :coffee:

We were in 2010... led FCS in takeaways with 47. :coffee:

Injuries to 4 LBs (including AA Zach Johnson), AA SS Matt Johnson, AA DT Renard Williams tends to hamper a defense... :coffee:

Didn't that defense hold UM to one of, if not the fewest point totals in 2011? Pending any freakish injuries epidemics like what happened last season, the 2012 defense will be much better that UM's I'll pretty much gaurantee that one.

Didn't like his schemes when he was at EWU, and most fans that have been around long enough probably feel the same. The 4-2-5 he ran wasn't effective enough in stopping the run against really physical teams.

That’s been our issue with the 4-2-5 but we have lacked size on the DL interior. This spring some OL were moved over to DL to beef things up. We’ll see how hat works.

The 4-2-5 is based on speed and quickness but you need players with the right skill set and attitude to be able to take on physical offenses. It's a little bit of bend, don't break and make the big stops and big plays when the opportunities present themselves. TCU vs. Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl a few years ago was a pretty good example of a 4-2-5 beating a power O.

Sears-Roebuck was named interim sponsor. Catalog arrives this fall. Bad jokes to continue thereafter.

Meh, both teams played like shit. Game could have easily gone either way.
