The timeline remains decidedly foggy, but Illinois State president Al Bowman has not wavered from his long-term goal for the Redbird football program.
“The long, long range vision is to play football at that next level,” Bowman said of moving from the Championship Subdivision to Bowl Subdivision. “But we’ve got a lot of ground between now and then.”
If and when they move up that leaves a spot open in the MVFC if they want to stay at 10....Does UND get invited and re-unite with the other Dakota 3 teams? UND would need a home for basketball, and volleyball which the BSC has but the BSC has no baseball but the Summit League does. There is still a war of words between SL President Tom Douple and UND president Robert Kelley over the whole nickname issue and scheduling thing. IMO things get intersting within the next few years or whenever ISU bolts for the FBS.

Probably, it makes sense geographically and rivalry-wise. Plus UND is a great academic school...

ISU has a home game against Ball State sometime soon, correct?

Long, long range vision sounds like quite a few years from now. By then The Fighting Sue will have a home or have some sort of problems to deal with. Doesn't seem like anyone wants you anyway.

Apparently 2014. That's the first I-A I've heard willing to make a trip.

Mascot issue notwithstanding, give me one reason why the MVFC wouldn't want UND to replace ISU

Didn't you say that about the chances of UND joining the Big Sky and USD joining the MVFC?

Never say never.

Well

, let me say this about that: over the years the MVFC has been very happy with a 9 team configuration. It is the preferred configuration and any changes in the conference have been to preserve the conference membership at 9.
The second point I think you need to understand if you hope to have any grasp of this issue

, is how astute the MVFC leadership has been at understanding the landscape in the fast paced world of FCS conference changes and how good they are at making the right moves.
Now, with those two points firmly established it becomes clear that there is a strategy behind admitting USD, which brings the conference to 10: Obviously conference leadership is expecting a change that will find the MVFC back at 9, the preferred number. They will have no desire to admit any school, not even UND.
There you have it

. Glad to help you out with the information you requested.

1. That wasn't two points
2. You're an idiot

You hear that USD. You're being added because they DON'T want 10 teams

USD is being added because the MVFC wants 9 teams

. I was afraid you wouldnt understand a well constructed logical argument, it didnt have retard or anything about sexually molesting anybodies mother, so I though it might be difficult for you

. Turns out I was right.
Happy to provide you with the further explanation

. Next...

So what you are saying is they admitted USD in knowing that ISU would be leaving therefore keeping the members at 9 and never going back to 10. Correct?

I think they had a pretty good idea that someone would leave in the relatively near term. YSU is a possibility too. So is NDSU, probably SDSU too, especially as a pair again. It would be nice to stay connected with SDSU and keep the tradition of the Dakota Championship alive.
USD looks like a good insurance policy for a solid conference and the league is making amends by allowing schools to still only have 9 conference games. ie. NDSU doesnt play Western Ill this year.

With USD now in your conference I don't know if NDSU will be SDSU's other half anymore.

I think they will, and in the mean time we do celebrate our association as the Dakota Big 3 with the de facto title of best college football team in the Dakotas at stake.
I have no doubt Illinois State could make the move as could YSU, NDSU and SDSU.
A real good move up conference would include those schools Montana and some of the WAC schools. Maybe Ill State is trying to get that ball rolling by announcing their long term goal. NDSU is silent on the subject. SDSU is obviously planning for a much bigger future.

What conference would that be? Montana said no to the WAC. The MWC/CUSA already has about 50 teams. Is that where you see NDSU-SDSU going? I see YSU or ISU headed to the MAC it fits geographically. NDSU-SDSU fits geographically in the Big 10 (don't get any ideas). You forgot one thing about moving up...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

What conference? Im talking about a new move-up conference composed from teams from the MVFC, BSC and WAC. It was just speculation but as the markets grow so will the stadiums, especially in Fargo and the bigger the stadium the bigger the opponents can be.
I think the point is this: Illinois State to the FBS has a real probability of happening. Other teams from the MVFC taking advantage of growing markets certainly have the potentnial as well. This could open the door for UND into the MVFCV but without some kind of major move the MVFC looks full for a long, long time.
The better senario for UND would be a football affiliate in the BSC and a member of the Summit. Wont happen as long as Doople is there because of the little dust up with the UND admin so its not really an issue. The Summit has loaded up with other midwestern rivalries anyway.

Someone pinch me because JBB is acting like a real poster
Let's say that the MVFC does have a preferred membership of 9 teams, and USD was an insurance policy against someone (probably IlSt) joining the MAC. Couldn't UND then be said to be the next insurance policy against someone else (probably NDSU) leaving too? You know the Sioux would jump at an invite because it makes way more geographical sense

It will take a lot for NDSU to get a new stadium for football. The new BSA hasn't even been built yet as funds are still trying to come in. Give NDSU 10-20 years to go FBS bound. Plus Fargo needs a diversion so you can't rely on the city to fork the bill for a bigger stadium either.

Illinois State is not going to the FBS.
North Dakota is not going to the MVFC.
This is retarded.

9 teams are better than 10, we could get rid of the unbalanced schedule
