NDSU lost its defensive coordinator to USC, but Bison head coach Craig Bohl didn’t waste any time in naming a successor.

Defensive backs coach Chris Klieman will take over for Scottie Hazelton, who will be the linebackers coach at USC, Bohl said. Bohl immediately promoted Klieman, who came to NDSU prior to this season from Northern Iowa, where he was a defensive coordinator.

There are connections that link NDSU coaches to USC head coach Lane Kiffin, most notably former Bison defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who worked with Monte Kiffin, Lane Kiffin’s father, when both were at Tampa Bay. Bradley is now with the Seattle Seahawks working under former USC head coach Pete Carroll. Also in Seattle is former NDSU defensive line coach Todd Wash, who also spent time at Tampa Bay.

Hazelton was OFFERRED the D COORD at Washington U and turned it down for USC and kiffin's bloodlines

NDSU is building a nice base of coaches in the major college ranks. With NDSU now 15-20 pt favorites over Colorado State its obvious the program has risen far beyond its humble beginings.

Most of the programs in this division seem to think developing high school or lower division coaches is a good deal. Look at SIU for example. D2 coach that seems to be taking the program in the wrong direction. UND is another prime example.

NDSU on the other hand went right to the D1 ranks with the head coach and the AD. It was very smart planning. Right out of the gate The BISON were recruiting and playing at a D1 level, there was very little learning curve and the curve has been on a nice upward trend over time. Now the BISON are National FCS Football Champions. Contrast that with the schools trying to build with lower division or high school coaches.

Ps. NDSU has a lot of former coaches at the pro level as well. The great programs develop the best talent. The record for The NDSU BISON proves that.

I'm sure Colorado State scheduled this game a few years ago thinking it was no big deal. Turns out they drew North Dakota State on the wrong year. After winning the National Championship, the North Dakota State Bison's next goal is to... win another National Championship and go undefeated in the process. North Dakota State has come off two consecutive FBS wins at Kansas and Minnesota, and Colorado State should be no problem for the Bison either.

Prediction: Colorado State 13 ND St. 35

The final Sagarin Ratings this year put it close to that number. That's likely where the number came from.

Thats an interesting insight. That might be where they got their guidance for their calls. Did you check any others?

They have Cal Poly and JMU losing big and University of South Dakota over Northwestern by 1.
