UNI@Montana. Not a game worth spending time on, I caught the score this morning. Just as I had thought the game was a shinning example of what happens in an expanded, hockey-like, playoff field. Its hard to believe there were teams worse than UNI playing in the opening round.

A little luck goes a long way. Since The NDSU BISON convincingly beat the Panthers in the regular season UNI has experienced a bizarre and unusual string of events that are commonly called luck. It was beginning to look like another manifestation of EWU, but as usual when the luck ran out so did they.

It sure was a banner year for UNI. They got to play at the insanely popular Fabulous Fargo Dome, which by the way is sold out for todays game. They also became the benefactors of the new expanded playoff field and got a trip to Missoula. What a thrill for those kids!

But now the time has past, the thrill has gone. UNI futility will no longer pay off in an easy conference title followed by an early playoff bow-out. The expanded field may still give them the early bow-out experience but the conference is now owned by NDSU. It is the Era of The BISON in the MVFC and unlike other MVFC teams The NDSU BISON are more than just fodder for the rest of the FCS playoff field.

Could Rennie be the most over rated QB in FCS history? What a laugh. I hope he isnt a senior! I dont think the offensive highlights are any place the UNI fans want to go today.

Everything about that program spells doom. They have shabby equipment. Their coach stands there swallowing hard knowing he is finished as he gazes blankly at the game. The UNI fans are celebrating yet another "shared" conference title even though they have lost 3 including a loss to the MVFC Conference Champions THE NDSU BISON, who by the way have only lost 1.

The thing the MVFC fans dont understand is this: NDSU has the attendance and that makes a program dominating because they have more resources. As time goes on this difference will become more pronounced. You can look at other conferences to see this if you dont already understand. Montana is doing it to the Big Sky and has turned that conference into a one trick pony except for the extraordinary circumstances sourrounding last season and the EWU playoff "debacle".

Overall the MVFC has more balance and talent but the same thing will happen with NDSU. Because the MVFC is more competitive and appeals to the east coast the BISON domination will have national reverberations. The insanely popular Fabulous Fargo Dome, which is sold out today by the way, has put The NDSU BISON on top and will keep them there until NDSU moves on to bigger and better things.

Don't worry, ass pirate, your team's nationally televised humiliation is coming up in January. It'll be fun, trust me.

How fitting that on the cusp of Big Sky expansion into the FCS's premier football conference it's looking like a an all BSC semi final on one side of the bracket and a probable champion in Montana to finish out an era that saw Montana win 2 NC's, EWU knock off two seeds on the road and win one NC of their own, and Weber State, NAU, and MSU all getting playoff wins. Innovative offenses, opportunistic defenses, multiple Payton and Buchanon award winners, team speed and increased athleticism, cutting edge uni combo's and sprint turf colors, top notch facilities etc. - the west is exciting and hip, the manifest destiny of FCS.

No wonder ESPN chose to air the Montana games this weekend - the writing is on the wall JBB and all eyes are looking west. App. State schedules a home and home with Montana, Central Arkansas installs colored turf, every one is getting it except you. It's just too bad that the BSC turned NDSU away a few years back. Would have been interesting to watch the slow and antiquated Bison program try to evolve.
