JMU @ NDSU

EKU gave them a run fr their money. You have to think NDSU is a road bump on the way to a home match up against Towson, right?

Who wins, TU or JMU? Who hosts? Regardless, an Association team makes it to the Quarters in this bracket. Thoughts? :)

I honestly think JMU will shock them in the FargoDome. :twocents:

LOL! I dunno. I watched NDSU on TV against Northern Iowa and they looked great. Very physical. Very tough. But then they got out-physicaled by Youngstown State.

I favor NDSU to win but it's not like a "sure thing" feeling. Tell you what, though: It should be a very physical game. I wish it was on TV.

NDSU will have to play a great game to keep it's perfect record against the CAA.

It always surprises me how annoyingly well JMU gets to be in the playoffs. I hope NDSU knocks them off. But JMU will not go down without a really good fight

I'm figuring JMU to pull the upset. (Though I'm not so sure that should qualify as an upset....)

As giddy as that would make me, I watched most of their game against EKU, and they were NOT impressive.

JMU dominated statistically- if you saw the stats but not the score would have guesses JMU won by 2-3 TDs. But I mean no disrespect to EKU, but JMU played like crap. If JMU plays the way they did @ EKU, will lose to NDSU by 2+ TDs...

This game should have been played at Bridgeforth Stadium

Much as I would like GSU to be the only seeded team on our side of the bracket, I just don't see it happening.

NDSU wins in a 24-7 type score.

This could be a NDSU blowout unless JMU do more to get into the endzone. NDSU's offense is much better than JMU's and they have only given up 17 points a game on Defense. I think it will be very interesting to see how JMU responds after today's game.

FWIW in 04' 9-2 non seed JMU played 5 straight road games in 5 weeks to win NC:
W @ Towson 31-17 last game regular season
W @ Lehigh 14-13 1st round (dominated statistically, looked like crap, everyone said would lose @ #2 seed Furman)
W @ #2 seed FU 14-13

11':
W @ UMass 34-17 last game regular season
W @ EKU 20-17 1st round (dominated statistically, looked like crap, everyone said would lose @ #2 seed NDSU)
?? @ #2 seed NDSU

But you can say 04' JMU team was regular season 9-2/7-1, this team was regular season was 7-4/5-3. Well, put it this way, Thorpe doesn't get suspended for 5 games for his "violation of team policies" this JMU team finishes 9-2/7-1. Definitely not saying This yr's team is as good as 04'- they're not.

The only way 2400 fit in the dome is if Mickey Matthews and his giant head don't show up.

being honest, I can see it happening as well. They have a great defense.

JMU's spread will have a hell of a time with the Bison D

SU's linebackers are a lot bigger, faster and more physical than EKU's... and the D-Backs (well, Williams anyway) will be gunning for picks if Thorpe throws passes like he did today (lots of jump balls)

Thorpe reminded me of a working man's Rennie from UNI - and the Bison D beat the hell out of him - to where he had to leave the game in the second half.

I think that factor - the physicality of the Bison D will be the determining factor. If they can play like they did all season - they should win - if they don't... the season ends early...

:? What is with this never ending drumbeat about how physical the Bison are? I've seen them play and they are no more physical than the rest of the MVC. :coffee:

I don't have a dog in the fight and I actually think NDSt will ultimately win but can we refrain from the "((insert MVFC team here)) is going to physically dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball" History shows that the CAA teams and MVFC match up well against one another. Yet it seems every year whether it's UNI, ND St, S. Illinois we have to hear the same thing. This game makes the 11th straight game a MVFC conference team plays host to a CAA team...it's 5-5 right now. Should be a defensive battle, looking forward to it

Should be close in the first half, with maybe a JMU lead at the half. NDSU adjustments lead to a 7-10 point win.

For the first time, since probably Marshall in 1994(??)...I'm not feeling good about a playoff game.

I give the Dirty Dukes a shot here but they have to be more two-dimensional than normal. The MVFC still has to prove itself in the postseason versus the top FCS leagues to be taken seriously.

:| They were 8-1 vs I-AA in 2004 when they won the NC and 10-0 vs I-AA in 2008 when they made the semis. They were one and done in 2006 and 2007. Maybe you just don't pay attention to them in the regular season.

We're 5-0 this year (6-0 including playoffs) vs. I-AA with JustWin Thorpe as our QB.

He was on his back looking out his earhole for most of the game. If JMU gets behind and Thorpe makes it to the 4th quarter I'd be surprised. JMU needs to start strong or they are done this week.

And look who JMU had to open up with in 06' and 07' because of geography (had nothing to do with low bid, as YSU was a seed and no one except maybe Montana could outbid ASU):
-#5 ranked team in the playoffs JMU @ #4 seed YSU. Lost 35-31 when YSU scored last min TD.
-JMU @ eventual NC ASU. Lost 28-27 after fumbling the ball at ASU 9 with 22 seconds left. :wall:
