South Dakota head coach Ed Meierkort's contract will not be renewed, athletic director David Sayler announced on Tuesday.
I felt it was important for the program to have a new direction in leadership
He was a good coach, maybe UND can snatch him up as an assistant.

South Dakota schools can only give out one year contracts, so he was basically fired.

No.
Whenever a report says a guy is fired, this is what they mean the vast majority of the time.
Surprised at this. The Coyotes were in the top-25 for about half of the season.

The USD players trashed the locker room after the USD-UND game, so I can't wait to see the face of the USD AD when UND sends them the bill. I wonder if the firing was related to that.
