Many rumors have been swirling that I did something drastic after my beloved Redbirds were absolutely snubbed from the FCS playoffs...then on ESPNU, the committee doesnt even say we were a bubble team...WHAT?!?! The 2 nd strongest Conference gets as many teams as t he sh!thole OVC, complete malarky!!! I hope the Committee all received nice watches for all the backroom bullsh!t they pulled today to allow EKU ahead of ISU!! Basically what this tells me is that no matter if they had won yesterday, YSU and ISUBlue had NO SHOT!!!

FCS Playoff Committee F.UCK YOU!!!!!!!!!

I feel less upset about YSU losing. I don't even think they would have made it as we've been snubbed 3 times already. Why not make it a 4th.

Completely agree matt. I just don't see it. I wish you guys pulled it off against UNI. I thought you did enough by sending it to 2OT and having 7 D1. I feel for you.

YSU would've made it in after beating the #1 team in th country on the road. It's really too bad because we could've had 4 teams in, until last weekend when everyone who needed to win, lost... :ohno:

You'd have been in if the 10 at large bids had been awarded according to the average of polls and power ratings now in place at http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare1aa.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Also, if you look at those ratings, I'd say the MVC wasn't the second strongest confrence this year. It was the strongest conference. Same story at Sagarin's conference strength ratings.

The playoff committee does suck. It always has. What it should be doing is using some objective power rating system and just letting that system pick the at large bids. Have everybody understand that going in, understand how it works, and let chips fall where they may.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association does that with its high school playoffs. Everybody understands what the power rating system is before the season starts. Then when the regular season is over the top 32 teams in each classification according to the power rating system are in the playoffs and seeded according to what the power rating system says.

I like that. I think they could choose a better power rating system but otherwise it's a great way to do things. No committee making arbitrary, subjective decisions after the season is over. No awareness at that point of how many teams came from one district, how many games they played against a particular level of competition, etc. The decision about what is going to determine playoff eligibility is made before the season starts then...as I said...the chips fall where they may.

I'd make it a little different for the FCS playoffs in that I'd keep the automatic bids. But I'd like to see a system like that employed to pick the 10 at large bids.

If one would've gone by that average of ratings and polls I linked the MVC would've had five teams in and North Dakota State would be the #1 seed. It'd have been North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Illinois State, Youngstown State, and Indiana State all in. Northern Iowa would've been the #3 seed. So the MVC would've had 5 teams and two of the top 4 seeds.

JSO: That may be so, but at least ensure that the power rating system chosen is at least understandable by Joe Fan. The Massey Ratings are more convoluted than the much-maligned QBR. Basing bowl berths or playoff berths off of Massey Ratings is utterly stupid as that will give spots to .500 teams and take them from 9-win teams. That was proven in the IWFL before they abolished Massey Rating usage.

Yes that's an obvious solution, but there will ALWAYS be teams that are on the bubble.

I don't know what the QBR or the IWFL are. But I don't think the standard should be what's understandable by the average fan. And I don't think it's necessarily wrong to give a sub 0.500 team a bid over a 9 win team. It depends on who those 9 wins came against.

It's quite possible that going 5-6 against one schedule could represent more of an "accomplishment" than going 9-2 against another schedule.

QBR = Quarterback Rating

IWFL = Independent Women's Football League

The nearest team to McNeese is the Houston Energy, who won the South Atlantic Division with a 6-3 record this past season. They lost in the Divisional (first) round 14-13 to the Atlanta Ravens.
