I swear the Griz are trying to rack up as many obscure penalties this year as possible

Not as bad as the penalty Peter got for catching the NAU kickoff out of the endzone last year.

Oregon center got a penalty for "bear hug" tonight.

That's almost as good as "giving the QB the business."

USC should have been flagged for sitting on LeMichael James late in the 2nd quarter...

15 yards on the 1st occurrance means that the ref ran into someone...If they were just close to him, it would be a warning first, then a 5 yarder, then 15

It's highly unlikely that the Ref would run into players on the sideline given his position in the backfield. Likewise the Umpire near the mike backer (college) or the offensive backfield (NFL, yuck!). You're probably thinking of the Head Linesman, Line Judge, Field Judge, or Side Judge. Like the Ref and the Umpire, the Back Judge likely would not be involved in any sideline collisions as he's in the middle of the secondary.

Interestingly enough, I just learned that the NFL experimented with a new official, a so-called Deep Judge behind the Back Judge to regulate receiver play. After his presence in 12 preseason games this year, THAT proposal has been tabled for the time being.

How dare you refer to every official as the "ref"?

I thought you were better than that Matt.

I'm so glad SuperHornet corrected you, because you're a disgrace.
