2011 Harvard-Yale Thread

So will Harvard just "mail it in" on Saturday now that the Crimson have clinched the Ivy title? Will Patrick Witt's decision to withdraw his Rhodes app and play in The Game give Yale an edge in its quest for its first win over Harvard in New Haven since 1999? Inquiring minds want to know.
I will predict a 34-21 Harvard win and a crowd of 48,000.

What's the tailgating scene like? Is champagne, Johnny Walker Blue, and petite fours surrounding pick up games of chess?

Pickup games of chess aside, some H-Y fans really "put on the dog" for this tailgate, including linen tablecloths, candelabra, china and silverware. Not to mention good food and booze. Pickup touch football games are more like it!
"Tailgates for the 1%."

Is there an OHY protest planned?

Yes, by those "Ivy" pretenders from Penn and Cornell!

Since Yale's quarterback gave up his chance at a Rhodes Scholarship to play - I hope for his sake he does well... (of course, he's graduating from Yale... his life won't likely be all that hard)

I'm sure that's the angle the New York and Boston media will play up, particularly if Yale wins.

It's tough winging it with a single chef without his saucier. Thank goodness for our Port-A-Bidet.

Won't matter. Yale will roll.

Nyet. I'm wondering to raise my predicted spread from 13 to 20.

It's hard to imagine Harvard having any trouble moving on Yale's porous defense.
I think (hope) Yale will score, but unfortunately, not nearly enough.
Yale did lose their best receiver in Chris Smith, but will miss him more on kick returns since H should be kicking off frequently. Plus Yale is fairly deep at wide receiver.
I hope I'm wrong, but
Harvard 35 Yale 20

Hey, bulldog, do you have a prediction on the attendance? I'm at 48K.

I'll go with 42k. I don't sense a lot of enthusiasm on the Yale side this year.

Just make sure you have an au pair for the grandkids, IT. Children are to be neither seen nor heard. Just make sure they have a green card....nasty business getting out from under THAT scrutiny later.

Just saw a Yale press release in the other forum that says they're expecting over 50K with a good walk-up sale.

A good "walk up" sale means weather will be a deciding factor.
I haven't looked at a forecast, but you know how Ivy fans are. If there is even a hint of rain the crowd could be under 40k.

OK, just read the press release. Sunny and mild weather. Maybe they will have a good walk up sale. We'll see.

Yes,
modern Ivy crowds are wusses. I remember sitting through the miserable, rainy '81 edition of The Game with over 73,000 others. Although I'm sure the Yale contingent had a "sunnier" view.

I sat through the '87 Ice Bowl, IT
I have never been so cold in my life. 19 degrees with the wind blowing about 40 miles an hour. One of Harvard's TDs was scored following a Yale punt from their end zone that went about 10 yards. It was sunny, though.
The day before had been about 50 and beautiful for the freshman game.

IIRC, Harvard's hoss RB that year was from Montana. So I guess the cold didn't bother him!
