Question to fellow ODU fans...

which would you prefer? A first round match-up against inner-city rival Norfolk State in the playoffs and get all the speculation over with? or a BYE to the 2nd round of the playoffs?
Tough decision if you ask me.
Other CAA and FCS fans, feel free to give your opinions as well.

BYE. Gives us three weeks to rest up which we especially need on defense, and we wouldn't have to face a seeded team in the second round (which would then be even more rested than ODU).

Yeah trip I agree, 3 weeks off sounds great but I would not be upset at all if they (the selection committee) puts ODU in the first round against NSU. If they put ODU in the first round against anybody else then I probably would be.

You guys will be getting a bye.

Norfolk State is not a rival to ODU in most anything.
Team needs some time to heal and get healthy. The double-bye is the better path.

I think so as well. I like to think the selection committee will look strongly at ODU's losses as well and how they turned out. ODU was a 4th and 29 away from being CAA Champions in their first season. And a couple minutes in another game from an undefeated season.
I just think a NSU-ODU match-up in the playoffs before the real series between the schools even begins would be unbelievable but of course you have to look at whats in the best interest of this year's team and its definitely being rewarded another bye week and additional team to heal from injuries.

I'd actually be very upset. I think we've done more than enough to deserve a first round bye. Anything less would be a slap to the face after all of our hard work . I'd love to play NSU, but not at the expense of a bye. Now if they also give NSU a bye and pit us against them in the 2nd round, I'd be ecstatic, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Norfolk State has their BYE this week so they will be well rested and prepared for whoever they face in the first round. And who knows maybe they'll end up facing ODU in the second round anyways and you guys get the best of both worlds.

very true, I think there were a couple NSU fans who believe NSU could get a BYE week but I dont think thats very realistic. However, I do believe Bethune Cookman got a bye last year.....
EDIT: DSU took the words right out of my mouth....

Unless ODU is seeded, we definitely won't be seeing NSU in the 2nd round. It'll either have to be in the 1st round or 3rd (or beyond)...unless they give both teams a bye (not seeing it for NSU...but who knows?).

I don't think ODU will be seeded.

Why do you hate ODU so much?

I guess I should quiet down, Razor could be lurking anywhere at this moment.

Basketball season has started, he's too busy over on the CAAZone starting treads about firing Blaine.
I'm so happy to be playing in the playoffs, first week, second week I don't care. Nice having a week off, kind of worried about having two and getting rusty. The team has been playing better and hitting harder each week, I really thought the CAA was going to cut us down without having a bye, but it worked out for us in the long run.

Don't care. Just be ready to play whoever, whenever.

thats the same mindset that alot of NSU fans have over on MFZ. I think there are a lot of fans who would like to see the match-up including myself but if anybody it might be the media that overhypes this game. Obviously this will be ODU's first trip to the playoffs but is it true that this will be the Spartans first as well?

Wilder has already laid out a schedule contingent on us receiving a bye. He said the team would not have any practice for 5 days this week and then he would also give them 3 or 4 days off next week to be at home for Thanksgiving. They've definitely earned it.

According to the article in today's VP the Spartans were in the 1984 DII playoffs where they lost to then Towson St. University. This will be both team's first foray into the Championship Subdivision Playoffs.
I would be upset if ODU doesn't receive a first round bye given their record and the strength of the two teams they lost to. As far as a three week layoff I believe that Bobby Wilder is experienced enough to keep the team focused and sharp in preparing for the playoffs.

what source are you getting this from?
And Max, I agree, I think Wilder is a good enough coach that the three week layoff will have a small impact, if any on the team.

3 weeks.
We are really banged up right now. 3 weeks would give all the bumps, bruises, sprains and pulls of a long season with no bye week to heal up completely.
If teams think we are fast right now, wait until we are fully healthy in the playoffs. We will be lightning quick to the ball.
At the beginning of the season, a bye the last week of the season looked rough. But now that we have made the playoffs and couple possibly earn a buy, this is a very good thing.
